Releasing this Jalter preview is mainly because the Post-processing progress is indeed much slower than expected, so here is a facial close-up and upper body detail shot to show everyone the current state.
Preparing to shoot this Fate/Grand Order Jalter cosplay took a considerable amount of time. The trickiest part was the black Dark style headpiece; its material was fairly rigid with a high-gloss surface, requiring clips and snap fasteners to be secured very tightly to avoid shifting. Moreover, holding this headpiece in hand revealed substantial weight, and keeping head posture perfectly still during the shoot proved quite a test for my cervical spine. The black chains across my shoulders were also solid plastic and relatively heavy; hanging around my neck while moving around created a certain feeling of constriction, which coincidentally helped immerse me into the character's bound state.
I experimented with new makeup techniques this time, especially eyeliner application—to match the character's sharp gaze, the eyeliner underwent multiple adjustments. The yellow contact lenses were deliberately chosen to display a translucent edge under strong lighting. The base makeup was kept matte to prevent oily shine and look cleaner under cool lighting. The lip makeup used a soft pink tone with blurred edges for a more natural look. The wig was trimmed over a long time; to give the roots extra volume, I specifically crimped and styled the base so it wouldn't look flat on camera.
I communicated extensively with the photographer during Cosplay photography; since the caption mentions an apology for any OOC, I was honestly feeling a bit unsure. This character's aura is unique, and to capture that fleeting moment of cold ruthlessness, I tried multiple gaze angles and practiced making my expression convey overwhelming intimidation mixed with a hint of resigned detachment. In the currently selected shot, the focal strength of the gaze is very powerful.
The reason the Post-processing process has been so slow is mainly due to light and shadow adjustments. Skin texture needed to remain soft, yet the metallic highlights on the headpiece and chains had to retain their sharp definition; overly strong contrast makes it harsh, while too weak contrast flattens the image, requiring a constant search for the sweet spot. Additionally, restoring the fabric textures was meticulous work, demanding patient handling of the spliced black and purplish-red sections.
Although the process of releasing a preview was quite an ordeal, it was a brand-new experience. From initially purchasing materials and making handmade adjustments to scouting locations for shooting, every single step received immense care. We encountered plenty of hurdles—such as chipped paint on the headpiece and tangles in the wig—yet fortunately, the final presented result came out relatively complete.
Many details are unnoticeable on set and only surface upon reviewing raw photos, which also stretched out the Post-processing timeline considerably. However, the slow and steady organizing process allows for a better reflection on the feelings during the shoot. Sharing the current progress is simply to document the challenges this Fate/Grand Order character brought me and my dedication to detail.
