[Nefer Cosplay] Nefer in Genshin Impact, This Time the Plush Backdrop Brings Full Atmosphere

This photoshoot was for Nefer from Genshin Impact. The entire costume's design is dominated by black, gold, and white, with teal accent lines in places; this color scheme creates a very crisp texture in front of the lens. The gold of the headpiece fits closely to my forehead, and during shooting I intentionally adjusted my bangs to ensure a natural transition into the headpiece. The upper body shoulder armor is made of custom rigid materials, offering a noticeable 3D feel when worn, which, combined with long black gloves on the arms, greatly helped shape hand movements. The skirt section is a slitted white mini skirt, which, paired with the black Cosplay leg garter on the thigh, perfectly elongates the visual proportions of the lower body.

The shooting venue was arranged with a rich sense of atmosphere. We selected a large white plush carpet as the main background support, which was extremely soft to lie on and solved many pose support issues. The brown leather suitcase at the bottom of the frame was a specially prepared prop featuring vintage metal corner guards, perfectly echoing the deep blue tablecloth with white patterns. The golden candlestick on the table and the golden carved mirror frame behind it both leaned the overall color tone of the frame toward warm shades in this Plush backdrop setup.

Regarding lighting, this shoot mainly relied on strong strobes to cast direct hard light. High-contrast lighting allowed metallic costume pieces, such as armguards and headpieces, to display high-brightness reflective effects. Although hard light leaves deeper shadows behind, it enhances overall three-dimensionality.

Because it's the character "Nefer", I paid close attention to visual expressiveness. When trying the side-lying pose, I specifically shifted my center of gravity to the side, supporting my body with an elbow while slightly raising my left arm, allowing both palm lines and the teal patterns on the gloves to be shown. I was quite satisfied with the visual proportions created by the golden high heels paired with the white mini skirt and Cosplay leg garter.

There were indeed some concerns about being OOC (Out of Character) for this shoot. Since the original character's setting leans toward being serious or distant, my lying pose on the floor combined with a languid, casual expression might look somewhat "out of character" or "unfit." So I hesitated quite a bit before posting, eventually deciding to give an "OOC apology" in advance as a precaution, hoping for understanding from fellow fans in Anime cosplay.

The white plush carpet was an extremely comfortable shooting prop, allowing complete freedom to lie face down without restraint. However, to keep the outfit's lines neat, I had to readjust the skirt hem and Cosplay leg garter positions every time I switched poses; these behind-the-scenes preparations actually took up most of the shoot's time.

Regarding character accuracy for this Nefer cosplay, beyond the costume itself, I feel emotional expression in facial demeanor is even more crucial. Although the pose leaned toward relaxed and comfortable, I still tried to retain a touch of the character's signature mystery in my gaze and expressions. For facial makeup, I intentionally reinforced the contours of eyeshadow and eyeliner to make eyes look deeper, which paired with the dark green wig perfectly matched the character's overall tone.

I didn't do much color grading in post-processing this time, mainly preserving the original light-and-shadow texture. The carpet, suitcase, and tablecloth in the frame formed great layering, and as the visual center, the warm-cool contrast when blending the subject with these backdrop elements remained very distinct.

Maintaining this outfit actually required considerable care; the black armor parts in particular easily collect dust and took a long time to clean before the shoot. The glove material fits the arms closely but feels slightly stuffy; fortunately, the texture of the final photos made all the hard work worthwhile.

During shooting, the photographer continuously guided me in adjusting angles, such as utilizing leg curves and skirt slits to increase spatial extension. For costumes with rigid armor and gorgeous accessories, overly stiff poses look like standing wooden poles, so capturing visual tension was always the problem to solve. Fortunately, a relaxed state was eventually found on the plush carpet, achieving the expected results.

The vintage suitcase on the left side of the frame was originally planned as a pivot for a stepping pose, but ended up becoming a great foreground element that, paired with the plush ground, added layering to the photo. The blue tablecloth and floral arrangements in the back were meant to set off a vintage, gorgeous ambiance, creating an interesting contrast with the outfit's hard lines and lightweight skirt. Overall, this contrast gave the photos a stronger narrative feel, while reflections from bead curtains overhead created an illusion resembling a glass dome.

Regarding clothing materials, combining the lightness of the white mini skirt with the weight of metallic hard armor meant extra care was needed regarding wrinkles during shooting; otherwise, the skirt bunching up over the Cosplay leg garter would look bulky. Every time I stood up to reposition poses, these details had to be adjusted. Looking at the state in the photos now, I feel my persistence back then was correct.

Finally, I want to use this photo to document my love for Nefer in Genshin Impact. Although I couldn't completely recreate the original character's demeanor, with the boost of this exquisite set and costume, it remains a wonderful shooting record.
