This outfit for Kuda Izuna actually has quite a lot of color palettes and design details, making it not so easy to coordinate. The deep blue of the sailor collar and the orange-yellow of the waist sash form a strong visual contrast, while the outerwear's pink long sleeves are printed entirely with white cherry blossom patterns. Fortunately, the overall look maintains the classic combination of a sailor uniform and a Japanese style cosplay coat, so it doesn't look too cluttered.
The animal ear hair accessory chosen is a white-base, orange-tipped style, and the small fox mask ornament hanging on it is a highlight, adding to the ninja's playfulness. The pleated skirt on the lower body is set in deep blue, and the asymmetrical combination of black over-the-knee socks and fishnets on the legs, paired with black glossy loafers, makes the character look cute yet sharp for battle. Before the shoot, I carefully checked all the accessories, especially the gloves and the waist sash, because they easily shift out of place when posing.
Among the props this time, that pink-and-white long spear can be considered the absolute core. Both the cherry blossom coating on the spear body and the white rabbit decoration at the front are highly faithful to the setting, and its weight in hand feels just right. Coordinated with several black throwing knives and white short blades scattered on the wooden table, the addition of these small prop items instantly infuses the frame with a sense of storytelling. There is also that matching chibi plushie I extended toward the lens; its derpy expression instantly cheers you up, making it perfect for interacting during close-up shots.
The shooting location was selected in a washitsu-style photography studio. The pink shoji doors in the background and the cherry blossom branches cascading from above created a unique atmosphere. To match the character's lively temperament, the photographer deliberately used a pink-purple light effect, combined with a mirror-reflection film laid out on the floor, making the entire environment look incredibly dreamlike. Personally, I really like this kind of flooring with a slightly reflective material, as it adds some layers to the light and shadow around the feet.
There were actually many small episodes during the shooting process. To candidly capture the dynamics of the swinging spear or the natural expression when passing the plushie, I had to repeatedly adjust my positioning and facial expressions. I am quite satisfied with this frozen moment of holding the plushie while making a rock-on sign; the expression is quite relaxed, and the interaction with the camera comes through nicely. When taking the first photo sitting down with the long spear, the composition was adjusted several times to emphasize the proportion between the weapon and the character. As a somewhat petite character, holding such a massive and long weapon in hand creates an endearing gap moe.
This cosplay photography shoot beautifully combined the character's agility with traditional elements. From makeup and styling to props and the actual live shoot, every segment tested our control over details. Standing under the cherry blossom tree in this outfit truly made me feel closer to the state I wanted to portray. In post-processing color grading, no overly exaggerated changes were made; it was more about restoring that visual sensation of a subtle pink aura on set. This is probably one of the truest joys of doing anime cosplay.
