[Kazami Yuuka cosplay] Touhou Project's Summer Master of Flowers, Strolling Through a Sea of Sunflowers

Putting on this red-and-white plaid dress and light green curly wig to stand in a sunflower field, I was already filled with anticipation for this look long before the shoot. Although the theme centers around Kazami Yuuka from Touhou Project, I didn't deliberately try to recreate hard-core battle postures, leaning instead toward an everyday feel infused with the atmosphere of late summer and early autumn. While many people might habitually associate her with the glamorous Master Spark of a plant manipulator, for me, blending the character's core demeanor with the surrounding environment was the deeper expression I sought in this cosplay.

A lot of thought went into coordinating this costume. The red-and-white plaid corseted dress has a strong vintage feel akin to a Lolita outfit, while the outer white lace blouse features delicate star textures and lace trimming, with intricate sleeve and collar details making the upper body look light and airy. Though the light green wig looks textured in photos, the sunward curls were actually styled to look fluffy and natural, paired with a massive red-and-green Tartan bow on the side of the head to strike just the right balance of color harmony and everyday casualness. To fit her identity as the Master of Flowers, I specifically brought a white decorative umbrella edged with colorful floral lace. This umbrella wasn't just a simple prop—it was like a key to stepping into this beautiful world, and the moment it gently unfolded, the character's atmosphere was instantly maxed out.

For this outdoor shoot, besides the traditional Sea of sunflowers, we also found a white curved metal flower gallery as a secondary setting. The sea of dazzling yellow in the sunflower field was bright and vibrant, forming a fantastic color contrast with my red-and-white outfit. Meanwhile, the white flower gallery segment felt quieter, where white iron arches and small blue flowers dotting the vines instantly accentuated a cooler, more elegant temperament. I remember turning around while lifting my skirt in the gallery when the photographer captured the moment the hem gently lifted, which, paired with green foreground bokeh created by a large aperture, gave the whole photo a dreamlike feel wrapped in sunlight. At that moment, I felt like I had stepped right into a fresh oil painting.

This entire shoot was photographed by photographer "中二少年牙签". We chose to shoot during a time when the light was rather harsh, but he very cleverly used huge sunflower leaves in the environment as foreground shade, avoiding direct light washing out my face while creating a soft, glowing visual experience. In composition, he favored switching between low and high angles, perfectly resolving scene clutter caused by dense crowds, leaving every final photo with a very natural and relaxed state. Our teamwork was super seamless, with many poses being improvised. Lifting the skirt, looking back, holding the umbrella, looking into the distance—I simply treated myself as a traveler intoxicated by the summer breeze, expressing another side of this character in the most comfortable state.

Honestly, shooting in a wig and corset under high heat and humidity takes a huge toll on physical stamina. As sweat dripped down my hairline, there was a momentary breakdown in my heart, but seeing those captured light spots, hair textures, and wind-blown skirt hems in the camera playback made all the hardship melt away. To me, the greatest meaning of Cosplay lies in experiencing a completely different life state under a character's name, preserving a gentle fantasy that might otherwise fade in real life. I thoroughly enjoy giving myself over completely to a character—even for just a short afternoon, it's enough to settle a gleaming memory in my heart. I hope these photos pass on that exact brightness and sweetness from the Sea of sunflowers to you all.
