[Zenless Zone Zero Cosplay] Sci-fi roaming with Cyberpunk beast ears and red patent leather outfit

This Zenless Zone Zero Cosplay photoshoot took a full, hard day of work. The reflective nature of the red-and-black patent leather jacket under lighting was genuinely challenging; shooting wasn't just a matter of pressing the shutter, but constantly fine-tuning body angles according to light sources to maximally bring out the outfit's functional techwear texture. The styling logic of this look is essentially armed from head to toe. The fluffy beast ears on top of the head and the red hood featuring a metallic diamond emblem show off a gorgeous sheen under pure white and deep blue spotlights. The brass bell choker around the neck serves as both decoration and visual focal point, and paired with the black-and-white grid base top, the overall layering is exceptionally sharp. The thick white tubular rope at the waist, secured with yellow loops, injects a rugged industrial wasteland vibe into the otherwise sleek and tight black-and-red palette. For the legs, I specifically chose thigh-high black stockings printed with white letters, paired with multi-segmented red-and-white mecha-style armor. Interweaving black, white, and red visually was a point I was particularly insistent upon when putting together this Black tights outfit. The advantage of black stockings is that they produce a soft matte texture under light without being overly glossy like patent leather, nicely balancing the visual weight of the upper and lower body. The firearm prop in hand was also a key customized focus this time; although made of lightweight material, segmented painting and detailed color separation still required extreme precision. When shooting weapon-holding actions, the metallic sprayed surface paired with cool-toned light tubes creates a striking warm-and-cool contrast against the red patent leather.

In terms of scene selection, the team and I unanimously decided to make the most of ready-made industrial spaces. Beneath that massive metallic "STORAGE AREA" sign in the picture, a mixed glow of purplish-red and deep blue hit the patent leather and mesh, instantly making the already dimensional outfit even richer in geometric angularity. There is also the wall stacked with vintage CRT TVs with knobs; that retro-tech feel is an absolute match for the Cyberpunk Kemonomimi girl vibe of the design. Regarding composition, aside from standard standing weapon-holding half-body shots and seated leaning poses, I particularly value the final low-angle prone posture. I rarely interact with the camera with a gaze almost parallel to the lens, but against this neon sci-fi backdrop, a ground-level view creates an atmosphere full of curiosity and cunning, while also utilizing wide-angle perspective to fully showcase the length of the black stockings and the rope waist accessories. Furthermore, for the hair texture of the beast ears, special care was needed in post-processing to preserve its original grain; over-sharpening would strip the ears of their organic creature-like feel, turning them into hairy plastic. During shooting, I tried to subtly coordinate facial expressions with the orientation of the ears to make the Kemonomimi girl portrayal more vivid.

Speaking of fun anecdotes during shooting, putting on and taking off a tight suit with such complex construction was indeed time-consuming. To prevent creases on the patent leather, every squat or kneel had to be done with extreme care. Wearing rigid beast ears while switching across multiple frames required not only considering posture stretch, but also ensuring the fur wasn't blown out by flashes and stripped of its fluffiness. Many fellow fans might wonder how such mecha-style outfits are usually maintained. To be honest, every time I bring this gear to studio shoots, it's packed in a giant dust cover. The red patent leather, which reflects faces almost like a mirror under studio lights, makes any specks of dust or fingerprints stand out glaringly under camera macro lenses, so my photo assistant was on standby with a lint roller the entire time before shooting.

In the game world of Zenless Zone Zero, that slightly decadent yet high-tech urban atmosphere aligns wonderfully with the heavy use of cool neon backgrounds in our photos. I believe that taking cosplay to its peak is not merely wearing the costume, but creating a chemical reaction with the surrounding environment. This full shoot from makeup testing to final post-production took about a week, and my biggest takeaway was the power of light and shadow in sculpting special fabric textures. Whether red light, white light, or blue light, as long as the angle is right, the visual tension of the entire photo emerges. Of course, physical stamina must keep up as well—after all, maintaining several difficult poses under the prolonged restriction of thigh-high socks requires core strength. In fact, wearing this thick patent leather and black stockings indoors without air conditioning was a true test of endurance. But every time I get the finished shots under the flashes and see those interwoven red and white hues, the grid patterns, and the metallic sheen in the frame, all the sweat becomes meaningful. Cosplay itself is an artistic expression, and the integration of technique and aesthetics ultimately delivers its answer before the lens of Cosplay photography.
