Attended an anime convention with my friend as Shinobu Kochou cosplay and Kanae Kocho Cosplay from Demon Slayer. Taking advantage of the broad diffuse sunlight across the plaza in the afternoon, we completed this duo outdoor shoot. From prep to final images, we are extremely satisfied with the color fidelity and character restoration.

First, costume details: The haori cut was custom-tailored to original artwork features—drop-shoulder design paired with wide sleeve cuffs creates elegant billows while moving. Black geometric lines accent the white base, while the pink-blue gradient along the lower hem is soft and natural, resembling watercolor blending. The black stand-collar top uses stiffer fabric to keep the collar crisp during motion—crucial for Convention photography. Black lantern pants with thick-soled geta allow nimble movement while lengthening leg proportions visually, complemented by purple foot wraps that echo purple hair highlights.

The Nichirin sword props were sourced and selected separately. Orange handle wraps offer great grip, and blade paint gleams with metallic texture under outdoor natural light. Tight fits between tsuba and scabbard give them solid weight. Posing required wrist strength to balance sword directions, keeping arm lines clean and sharp rather than limp.

For makeup, we focused on eyeliner and lip saturation. The butterfly sisters require a cool yet gentle aura, so we opted for matte base makeup for clean transparency over bright highlighters. Lower eyelids and aegyo sal were defined alongside subtle facial contouring for 3D dimension on camera. Wig styling required teasing roots and setting volume for rounded head shapes. Gradient purple-and-blue-black hair ends were essential for close-up texture.

My friend and I shared seamless synergy. For the head-patting shot, we calibrated height-difference angles—I leaned slightly while she raised her gaze, creating a natural interaction conveying an elder sister's protective bond. Back-to-back poses tested expression control, requiring alert or quiet glances rather than blank stares. Full-body walking shots added dynamic breathing room as haori hems swayed in the wind.

The only regret was missing Kanao Tsuyuri in this set. Though we cosplayed her in prior events, the full trio is needed to complete the storyline. Having all three butterfly sisters together would elevate the narrative immensely. Still, convention schedules are tight, and capturing this duo moment brings immense satisfaction.

Outdoor Convention photography demands high photographer skill. Soft white afternoon sunlight eliminated hard shadows, yielding delicate skin textures with just simple reflector fill. Cosplay is about understanding character environments and freezing those moments. Low-angle shots enhanced heroics while mid-shots captured natural postures.

Though we didn't achieve a trio shot today, preparing, applying makeup, refining poses, and reviewing results together made the experience invaluable. This Shinobu & Kanae duo shoot was a heartfelt practice capturing authentic character traits while preserving our lively expressions in this Cosplay sharing post.
