This set of Touhou Project Youmu Konpaku cosplay main photos took about half a month from preparation to final photos. Thank you very much to @Ruyuanyinghua Photography Studio for providing the venue this time. The classic Japanese-style shoji doors, tatami mats, paper lanterns, and large areas of artificial cherry blossoms inside the studio perfectly restored that fantastical Japanese atmosphere. Today, let's share the creative details of this set of photos from a first-person perspective.

First, let's talk about the clothing and styling. Youmu's most prominent features are her silver-white short hair and the exaggerated large black bow on top of her head, and the wig is trimmed to fit the face shape very well. In terms of makeup, the eye contour was heavily emphasized, with light-colored contact lenses paired with upturned thick eyelashes and eyeliner, conveying Youmu's serious yet somewhat detached temperament through her gaze.

The detailed engineering of the clothing was quite extensive. The top is a short Japanese-style design in white and green, and what took the most thought were the skirt hem and waist. To fit the setting, I prepared extremely intricate three-dimensional prop pendants: including a huge golden beast head, red camellias, white skulls, and rib cage models. Although these props have a certain weight, they can greatly increase the visual tension of the frame when walking. The huge black bow behind the waist is also the finishing touch, giving the overall silhouette more layers.

In terms of weapons, the katana prop in my hand has a good grip, supporting me in making various crisp and neat drawing and slashing actions. The shoe and sock design is also very distinctive, with one side being black-and-white checkered socks, and the other side being white leg-wrap socks paired with red-corded thick-soled geta. This asymmetrical design has a very geometric aesthetic visually, and although it increased the difficulty of maintaining balance during shooting, the result was well worth it.

To express Youmu's combat state as a gardener, in action design we tried a series of large-amplitude postures such as standing sword-drawing, overhead sword-blocking defense, and crouching. The lighting inside the studio was very clever; the background was deep green ambient light, supplemented on both sides by warm yellow lantern light, and the contrast between cool and warm tones made the frame look extremely cinematic. Paired with a red oil-paper umbrella, it felt like truly being under a dark night cherry blossom tree.

As a hugely popular character in Touhou Project, Youmu possesses both the sharpness of a swordsman and the special setting of being half-human and half-phantom. Being able to showcase her cool and neat side through my own understanding and body language was a very gratifying shooting experience. This shoot also gave me new insights into the tension expression of Japanese-style photoshoot actions in front of the lens, and I will continue to try more challenging visual presentations in the future.
