[Sparkle Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail's White-Haired Rabbit Ear Girl Capturing Light and Shadow in a Vintage Bar

The theme for this shoot was clear: to recreate the character Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail. Upon receiving this costume, my first impression was its rich level of detail—the red-and-white paneled top with an off-the-shoulder design, combined with wide black water sleeves on both sides, conferred a flowing dynamism during movement. The white rabbit-ear charm at the waist and the rabbit-ear top hat were the soul of this look, adding a touch of playful charm. The wig was a silvery-white shade styled into twin pigtail braids; wearing it transformed my whole aura.

The location chosen was an aged vintage cafe bar with wooden wine cabinets and a bar counter, walls lined with coffee and dessert posters, where warm yellow ambient lighting contrasted against dark blue-purple cold LED strips in the background—a perfect counterpoint to the character's red-and-white palette. Lighting on set was complex: overhead ceiling lights, concealed LED strips behind, and under-lighting shining up through wine bottles. To capture the subject clearly without compromising environmental mood, the photographer used a wide aperture paired with a softbox, illuminating facial features while providing ideal background blur, letting neon-like wine bottle colors bloom magically.

Makeup focused on high-saturation Anime cosplay blushing, particularly crimson around the eyes and cheeks, paired with glossy lip gloss to make expressions look lively. Red fingerless gloves and hand guards added kinetic tension to poses; while posing, I intentionally let the sleeves drape naturally to imitate the character's casual, mischievous nature. Holding up a finger for a cheeky pointing action while maintaining engaging eye contact with the lens took numerous takes to lock down the most natural frame.

Dressing was intricate—multiple waist cinch straps and neck collar buttons required careful micro-adjustments, but once fully suited up, my mindset seamlessly entered character. During shooting breaks, I posed with a prop wine glass at the bar; though not a signature canonical prop, that retro drinking atmosphere fit surprisingly well. Post-processing focused on unifying color temperatures, brightening skin tones slightly while deepening background shadows to make the red-and-white outfit pop. The overall approach balanced recreating two-dimensional character charm with preserving realistic photography textures.

Many friends worry that outfits with wide sleeves and complex embellishments might look bulky on camera, but selecting proper angles, leveraging sleeve flutter, and utilizing cinched waistlines actually elongates proportions. I chose a slightly angled stance with one leg subtly bent, displaying the pleat textures of the white pleated skirt while keeping waistlines defined from the front. A medium-telephoto lens pulled the background closer to compress spatial depth, encircling the subject with bar bottles and posters.

Due to thorough prep work, styling, outfit changes, and lighting tests took about two hours, followed by roughly an hour and a half of shooting. Vintage bar photography in a defined indoor studio tests lighting control and pose execution, requiring light re-metering with every angle shift. Fortunately, team synergy was seamless, yielding results exceeding expectations. Writing this share, I can still recall amber reflections from the wine cabinet shining onto my outfit—a fusion of industrial retro and anime fantasy that stands at the heart of this Sparkle cosplay endeavor.
