This official Castorice cosplay photoshoot finally makes its debut from the Chengdu WorldLine Anime Convention. To capture Castorice's singular aura from Honkai: Star Rail, immense care was invested into the nuances of this attire. The asymmetrical purple-and-white color-blocked skirt is cut high-low—shorter in the front and cascading longer in the back. The black vine cutout motifs along the hem were painstakingly hand-applied, and three internal layers of stiff crinoline tulle were added to preserve dynamic volume and dimension during movement. The 3D floral blossoms on the bodice and the trailing lace veil at the back were adjusted repeatedly to ensure the finest drape and dimensional silhouette under convention hall lighting. The thorny briar spikes on the headpiece were fashioned from lightweight craft materials to reduce head strain, as wearing heavy headwear for prolonged hours puts genuine stress on the cervical spine.
For hair and makeup, the purple wig was cut with airy see-through bangs and face-framing side locks, paired with custom elven ears to sculpt delicate facial contours, with purple contacts harmonizing with the overarching palette. To pair with this gown, I selected over-the-knee White stockings and platform high heels, which visually elongated leg contours while easing foot fatigue from walking the convention floor all day. The pink-and-purple gradient floral bouquet was specifically curated to match the costume's tones, introducing vibrant life while serving as a fantastic foreground prop during shooting.
Shooting at convention venues is a test of physical stamina, especially under volatile outdoor natural light. We brought along reflectors to let natural light illuminate through the White stockings and sheer dress layers, giving the overall composition a softer touch. The biggest hurdle at outdoor conventions is background crowd interference, so the photographer scouted various secluded corners and relied on wide-aperture shallow depth of field to keep the subject crisply isolated. Encountering so many passionate fellow fans who helped carry gear and spot shooting locations made for an exceptionally warm atmosphere. When posing, I kept my shoulders relaxed, adopting natural body language that honored her quiet, enigmatic aura—subtle interactive reaching gestures or turning to glance at the lens added deep narrative texture. Though the ensemble looks ethereal and breezy, it hides intricate structural fasteners: the waist lacing and detached arm sleeves had to be anchored securely to avoid wardrobe mishaps during wide-range movement. The gloves are made from a delicate fabric that easily catches dirt when handling flower stems outdoors, requiring extra vigilance.
Heartfelt thanks go to the photographer for patiently capturing these recap shots at Chengdu WorldLine. Every cosplay journey is an artistic reinterpretation of the character: from fabric sourcing and pattern making to the final presentation, each milestone brings immense fulfillment. This Castorice cosplay was a project I prepared for a long time, refining the transition from 2D character designs to 3D tailoring through countless fittings. I hope these photos convey the character's tranquil serenity. See you all at the next convention!
