The character I did this time is Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail, who is also known to everyone as the Emanator of Elation. This outfit has so many details, from the red, black, and white color scheme to the bow at the neckline, and the irregular patterns and tassels on the sleeves; every part hides a clever little design thought. The wig is a silver-white twin-tailed style with smooth hair strands. However, to maintain the fluffiness and the shape of the two hair rings on top of the head, I spent a lot of time on the styling. An inner layer of hairnets and wires was used for support, and the outer layer was slowly adjusted strand by strand for its curvature, and I'm quite satisfied with the final result.
The most interesting part is actually these matching props—the chibi-style little dolls hanging on the head and arms, as well as the blue-purple bunny plushie on the ground, which are all highly iconic elements from the character setting. During the shoot, I specially chose a clean gray-and-white background to maximize the color layering of the costume itself without making the frame look cluttered. We also tried several high and low camera angles, and finally found that a slightly high-angle downward shot or an eye-level shot tilted slightly upward can better reflect the character's playful yet slightly dark temperament.
The makeup features a pinkish-red eye look, with special emphasis on using eyeliner to elongate the outer corners of the eyes and deepening the shadow of the aegyo sal underneath. Combined with the red colored contacts, that gaze of three parts innocent and seven parts cunning comes right through. The black leather gloves on the hands have an excellent texture, and the reflective effect makes the photos more three-dimensional. The paint job on the prop sword also received a weathered and metallic luster treatment. The weather was great when shooting this set, and the natural light combined with fill lights accurately restored the translucency of the skin and the matte fabric of the clothes.
I really enjoy this process of capturing a character's soul through the lens; every press of the shutter is a test of my own understanding and expression for my Coser daily life. The character Sparkle always loves to create surprises and twists in the role-playing game, and I hope this set of photos can also convey that relaxed and slightly playful sense of fun. While organizing these photos, I noticed some details that could be fine-tuned, such as smoothing out the skirt folds a bit more or making the opening angle of the gloves more natural. These are all areas that can be improved if I do another set next time. The photography and styling teams both put in a lot of effort to make this final set look so complete.
Finally, I picked out these three photos for the initial release. Figure 3 is a relatively complete full-body display, while the high-angle shots in Figure 1 and Figure 2 highlight those cute charms and props. I hope friends who love this character can see my respect and dedication to the original settings. Fellow cosplayers who study makeup and outfits are also welcome to exchange insights, after all, the fun of Sparkle cosplay in an Anime cosplay context lies in continuous learning and improvement!
