Departing today for an Outdoor photoshoot portraying Ib from Ib. Sitting inside the car en route to the location, I took advantage of the transit time for a final check of my styling and cosmetics. The natural illumination filtering in through the car window was magnificent—diffusing just softly enough to clearly inspect the micro-details of my eye makeup. Organic daylight like this provides an incredible reference and foundation for elevating the tactile texture of the finalized images.
Preparing for Ib took extensive groundwork. First was the dark brunette long straight wig: the blunt straight bangs had to be cut with substantial density and organic drape, avoiding any cheap synthetic sheen. Each strand was straightened beforehand with a flat iron to achieve that silky, understated detachment straight out of the game's art style. In cosmetics, the crimson contact lenses are the very soul of the look. While they slightly obscure vision once worn, pushing through that discomfort is an absolute necessity for character fidelity. For the eye makeup, I deliberately deepened the lower lid shading and extended the outer eyeliner wings, pairing it with an ultra-fair porcelain complexion to evoke that surreal detachment hovering between reality and the 2D world. Because her character design is inherently delicate, I eschewed heavy contouring, relying instead on strategic matte highlighters across the center of the face to maintain clean facial flatness and ensure an ethereal, pristine visual presence before the lens.
The white collared shirt seems deceptively simple, but wearing it with Ib's distinctive blend of prep-school formality and fragile vulnerability is no easy feat. The collar had to be pressed razor-sharp without a single crease. The crimson tie was equally vital—the knot placement and tension required repeated calibration so it was neither too loose and sloppy nor too stiff and stifling. Carrying out these delicate adjustments within the cramped confines of a vehicle was quite an exercise in patience; changing garments and arranging the straight hair had to be done with utmost care to avoid mussing the freshly finished styling. Yet watching the cityscape blur past outside the window filled me with intense anticipation for the upcoming shoot.
Today's location was scouted for its abundant natural sunlight. In Anime-style photography and cosplay shoots, natural ambient light is both the greatest asset and the most difficult element to master. Harsh direct sun exposes cosmetic imperfections, whereas overly diffused shade flattens dimension. Upon arrival, coordinating reflector bounce angles with the photographer will be the top priority. Channeling Ib demands that emotional delivery remains restrained rather than demonstrative. She is overwhelmingly quiet, balancing an innocent bewilderment before the unknown with an understated, quiet resolve. Posing therefore requires disciplined facial control—minimizing excessive eye flutter and holding a calm, subtly searching gaze.
Many assume on-location outdoor shoots are merely about striking poses, but the physical and mental stamina involved is substantial. To keep the collared shirt pristine and the wig sleek, even mid-shoot breaks forbid careless movement. Furthermore, wearing red contacts for hours leads to dry eyes, making lubricating drops an essential companion. Yet all this meticulous care exists solely to deliver an uncompromising, high-caliber set of proofs. Every cosplay project is a fresh interpretive dialogue with the character, where every detail from garments to silent posture undergoes deliberate contemplation.
We are pulling up to the location now, ready to step out and embrace the day's sunlight. I hope my energy stays locked in from start to finish, translating every frame envisioned in my mind into breathtaking reality.
