[Aglaea Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail's Witness of Dawn

Doing makeup, styling, and shooting for the character Aglaea requires putting a lot of energy into the selection of details. For this shooting plan for the World Line Anime Convention, I decided to find an outdoor venue with an open view, using the evening natural light to present the character's temperament.

Starting with the preparation of the costume, this dress design with a main color scheme of white and gold is very special. The drape of the white outer skirt fabric is crucial for the presentation effect, while the inner lining's golden reflective fabric can refract a warm halo in dark areas. Especially when the wind blows through the skirt hem, that flowing sense of layering immediately reveals itself. The golden decorations at the neckline and the metallic-textured appliqués at the waist took the most time. To fit the patterns in the character's setting, both the props and the coordination needed careful consideration. The yellow greatsword prop in hand was also specially customized; it has a moderate weight, making it convenient to strike various dynamic sword-wielding poses. The matching high-heeled sandals and strap design also make the overall look appear more slender and upright.

As for the makeup, I tried a style that is both cool and powerful. The short golden wig was trimmed with distinct layers, which, paired with the emerald green colored contact lenses, makes it easier to capture a focused and sharp look in the eyes. The eye makeup wasn't overly exaggerated, but instead focused on the interplay of light and shadow between the eyeliner and the pupils, allowing it to blend naturally with the overall white and gold attire.

In terms of shooting techniques, I specially chose the golden hour before sunset, incorporating golden hour photography. The light during this period is soft and warm, sketching a beautiful golden silhouette around the edges of the hair. Just like the line in the post description, 'like a perfect statue standing for a thousand years,' the character appears more solemn in the backlight. At the same time, the large aperture combined with the background of the plaza's stone slab ground blurs out the distant buildings and pedestrians, making the character stand out more. During the actual shoot, I adjusted the sword-holding posture quite a few times; it needed to have a sense of being ready to strike without being too stiff. Perspective angles such as tilting the sword blade and pointing the tip of the sword at the camera can enhance the tension of the image.

Regarding the character's own emotion, I tried to immerse myself into the concept mentioned in the post: 'There are thousands of thoughts, but only when the fire in the heart remains unextinguished is it enough to witness the arrival of dawn.' The feeling this character gives me is not a high-and-mighty detachment, but rather carries a certain firm yet restrained sense of power. Therefore, in terms of expression, I tried my best to keep it peaceful, but the gaze cannot be empty; it needs to have a touch of insight and depth.

The weather on the day of the shoot was quite cooperative, and the halo of the sunset glow really added a lot to the atmosphere of the entire set of photos. The atmosphere at the convention site was also wonderful, with many passersby and fellow fans able to recognize the character. This sense of resonance with the character gave me great encouragement as well. As an enthusiast, being able to turn a beloved character from a flat image into a three-dimensional representation—the polishing of these details and the coordination of props during the process—are all very interesting experiences. In the end, I chose to compile these convention photos because the angles of light and shadow and the moments when the skirt fluttered were quite hard to capture.
