[Niko cosplay] Genshin Impact: Hexenzirkel Afternoon Tea Time

This Hexenzirkel afternoon tea themed photoshoot actually required significant thought starting from the early planning stages. Cosplaying Niko from Genshin Impact, what I most wanted to capture was that mysterious, elegant, vintage, and leisurely aura. The entire scene was set in the afternoon, with a study containing wooden display cabinets and red drapery chosen as the background. The shelves were filled with wine bottles and ornaments, warm fairy lights hung overhead, and vintage books alongside a map-patterned chest were arranged on the table. With light cutting in from diagonally behind and a warm amber palette permeating the scene, the raw captures already possessed plenty of atmosphere with hardly any post-processing required.

Let's talk about the wardrobe and styling first. Niko's outfit features a primary color scheme of white, blue, and orange. The top is an off-the-shoulder design paired with detached sleeve covers, incorporating layered fabrics around the elbows and wrists. I spent considerable time adjusting these nuances before shooting, especially the blue gradients on the cuffs and skirt hem, as the fabric caught light easily and demanded frequent angle checks. The white round hat with orange geometric patterns and blue diamond trims along the rim needed secure fastening, or else it would slide when looking down at a book or turning sideways. The wig is straight, silvery-white hair styled with blunt bangs, complemented by elf ears on both sides adorned with gold, green, and orange accessories. The wig was layered with pomade beforehand to prevent flyaways during indoor or outdoor movement. For eye makeup, a reddish-pink blend with deepened outer corners paired with pale blue contact lenses, the red forehead mark was drawn with specialized pigment, and a rich, rosy lip tone was selected to lean closer into the witch aesthetic.

During shooting, the props served as wonderful narrative aids. The black hardcover books, open pages, and vintage wooden chest with map motifs all enriched the storytelling within the frame. For instance, in the shot sitting on a chair reading, holding the book in one hand while resting my chin lightly on the other and gazing toward the lens avoided forced smiling, preserving an air of mystery. For the desk shots, resting both hands on the edge or cupping my cheek allowed the photographer to frame from a front-diagonal angle, blurring the open book pages and flowers in the foreground for instant compositional depth. In the low-angle upward shot, extending my hand toward the camera alongside flower bouquets on the floor visually elongated body proportions while creating an engaging, fourth-wall-breaking dynamic.

Regarding the skirt and leg details, white strapping and leg garters accented with small golden charms produced flattering lines in seated and three-quarter turns. To honor this airy Gothic or fantasy aesthetic, I intentionally let the skirt drape open rather than bunch up. The photographer was very deliberate with lighting: warm amber ambient fairy lights and table lamps contrasted against the cool white tones of the attire, giving the silhouette greater three-dimensional depth. Because we were indoors, the camera's ISO was kept low with a correspondingly slower shutter speed to prevent shadow noise, requiring me to hold steady postures—especially while handling books or lifting the chest—taking multiple shots to capture the most natural poise.

Reflecting on the whole shoot, the Hexenzirkel afternoon tea concept did not need overly complex movements or expressions; reading quietly, adjusting props, or simply brushing hair aside was enough to evoke that vintage, fantastical mood. From the folds of the garments to the sleekness of the wig and the focal point of every gaze, everything came together through patient fine-tuning.
