Putting on this outfit to shoot Kuda Izuna from Blue Archive was a pretty special attempt. The scene was deliberately chosen in a courtyard with cherry blossoms and a Japanese karesansui (dry landscape) design. The scent of the wooden sliding doors and tatami makes the whole atmosphere fit perfectly with the character's temperament, which combines Japanese style elements with a modern girl vibe.
This Animal ear outfit looks light, but it actually took a lot of thought to put together. The most conspicuous parts are the pair of fluffy fox ears and the huge, puffy tail behind me; to maintain their good shape, special attention was paid to the placement angles during the shoot. The costume itself combines a sailor collar, a pink and red cherry blossom shawl, black fishnet stockings, and loafers, preserving the character's cute points while carrying a sense of crisp mobility. The ninja sword prop in my hand was a huge help when coordinating movements, and the patterns on the scabbard echo the cherry blossom elements on the outfit.
During the shoot, I experimented with different poses such as raising my arms, crouching, and striding with the sword, wanting to express the gap-moe of the character being both energetic and agilely cute as a bodyguard ninja. Throughout the shooting process, I kept thinking of the line, "Please let me become your bodyguard ninja," so I did my best to present a sense of approachability that feels ready to leap into action at any moment without being overbearing. Several sets of shots on the indoor tatami and the outdoor courtyard stone steps captured states under different lights and shadows, making it a great experience for Courtyard photography. For instance, the interior utilized the soft light filtering through the window panes, while the exterior captured the exact state of the afternoon sun passing through the cherry blossom branches and leaves. Personally, I am quite satisfied with the overall completion level of this attempt; the combination of the Japanese-style scene and the character's traits gives the whole photo set a strong sense of storytelling.
