[Shuten-Doji cosplay] Feast of Enchanted Sake in Fate/Grand Order

The theme of this shoot is Shuten-Doji cosplay from Fate/Grand Order. For the background, a huge cool-toned full moon prop was specially constructed, paired with dry ice fog to create a chilly, dreamy atmosphere. During shooting, backlighting outlined the character's contour, and the lighting technician deliberately reinforced this cool light source shining from behind, making the night scene feel remarkably realistic, as if standing in a moonlit sake feast.

To fit the character, a dark purple-blue short wig was selected and styled into a crisp bob cut. The pair of horn props atop the head were secured before makeup application; the color gradient transitioning from red tips to a white base required advance spray-painting to guarantee pure, natural colors under lighting. For makeup, red contact lenses paired with heavy red eyeshadow and dark lip makeup formed a visual centerpiece against the cool backdrop, highlighting the character's enchanting yet slightly sinister feel. Small metal forehead jewelry details near the ears also contributed to overall refinement.

The outfit's cut features an off-the-shoulder loose style, where dark purple-blue fabric seamlessly connects with bright pink patterns along the sleeves. This color clash isn't jarring, but rather underscores the character's innate casual yet luxurious nature. I tried a seated posture looking back, allowing the lower dress hem to stack naturally and showcasing barefoot details, restoring the character's original setting directly without stockings. Holding a red sake cup in hand with a vintage brown sake gourd beside me, props and attire combined to fill the narrative feel of sipping sake while admiring night scenery.

The environment on the shoot day was actually freezing cold. Although shrouded in fog on camera, setting up the scene took a long time to protect props and outfit folds. The photographer adjusted camera angles many times to ensure my center of gravity remained stable while sitting on rocks, presenting natural fabric drape and bare feet stepping on stone surfaces within the frame. Japanese-style yokai character looks have always been classic in the cosplay community; capturing the right feel requires not just piecing together clothes and props, but expressing the character's languid yet effortlessly composed demeanor through gazes and physical posture. Thus during shooting, I controlled facial expressions to narrow my eyes slightly with a faint smile rather than complete indifference.

As a cosplayer, I feel the most crucial step in restoring 2D characters with rich settings is capturing their mental state in the lore. Shuten-Doji is set as a Demon King look while carrying a bold, unrestrained aura, so her drinking posture shouldn't be coy, but rather carry a matter-of-fact confidence. This photo set adopted cool and warm color contrasts—cool cyan-blue light from the background moon, paired with warm colors brought by the red sake cup and pink flower branches behind, preventing visual monotony.

Finally, heartfelt thanks to the photographer's patience and the logistics team helping control fog flow directions, without which capturing key shutter moments as fog gathered would have been difficult. Though setting up complex scenes is exhausting every time, seeing that mysterious, bewitching feeling captured in final Cosplay photography renderings makes every effort worthwhile.
