[Robin cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail CPG08 Convention Photos Shoot Record

Completing this Robin shoot at the CPG08 anime expo was packed with intricate technical challenges, so I wanted to document my crafting and shoot reflections to share with everyone.

First, the wardrobe: the layered tulle skirt consists of multiple tiers. To ensure an ethereal, floating drape while walking, stiff crinoline was used in the inner lining to build volume, while the outer shell featured soft blue-to-purple gradient tulle trimmed with delicate feathers along the hem. Visually it was breathtaking, but carried noticeable weight, demanding constant vigilance to prevent the train from dragging across the concrete. The bandeau bodice incorporated generous lace appliques and sequins; its tailored contour fit cleanly, defining body lines in full-body compositions.

Next was anchoring the wings and halo. The wings were secured to my back, while the halo was fastened atop the wig using a clear headband; dialing in the exact tilt to create an illusion of floating suspension took considerable trial and error. The wig featured long, voluminous curls in a two-tone blue-and-purple gradient, adding distinct weight to my head once pinned. The staff prop featured a rich purplish-red shaft topped with ornate rings, seashells, and feather ornaments—gorgeous in detail, though holding it aloft for extended periods fatigued the arm and made crowd navigation tricky. To capture her ethereal disposition, I paired reddish-orange contact lenses with warm-toned eyeshadow and elongated lashes, evoking a mysterious yet luminous 2D anime makeup aesthetic. The base foundation was kept porcelain fair to emphasize the gaze, complemented by a soft peachy-orange lip. I wore white platform Mary Janes; though offering flattering height, standing on concrete all day took a toll on my soles, but remained essential to recreate that kitten-heel silhouette.

Natural ambient lighting proved to be our greatest ally. As golden hour approached in late afternoon, the sun fell directly behind me. The photographer leveraged strong backlighting, allowing light to illuminate the translucent tulle layers and feathers, producing a striking rim light and cinematic lens flare that amplified her ethereal grace. To seize the fluttering flare of the skirt, I tested single-leg balancing stances—holding steady in platform heels, balancing the staff, and controlling facial composure was a true physical workout. The open plaza outside the hall featured basic architecture and concrete, but shooting wide open melted them into creamy bokeh that made the character pop. For a cosplayer, every convention brings a fresh journey; beyond walking the floor, bringing a beloved character to life with dedication and collaborating with a photographer to create memorable art brings unmatched fulfillment. Post-processing avoided heavy airbrushing, preserving raw textural fidelity to spotlight the cascading tulle, delicate plumage, and dynamic live atmosphere.

These Convention photos feature diverse framings—from half-body close-ups to full-length silhouettes—allowing viewers to appreciate the lace textures and delicate staff craftsmanship. Given the chance, I hope to take on more styling along this aesthetic to delve even deeper into character lore.
