This set of photos was taken at Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) at the end of November. We stayed from the afternoon until the evening, witnessing the sky change rapidly from the blue hour to the moment the street lights turned on. The Ferris wheel backdrop is actually more suitable for sunset, as the massive frame highlights the figure, and when combined with the warm yellow string lights on the architecture at night, the contrast between cool and warm tones creates a great atmosphere.
I really like the color scheme of this outfit; white lace edges spliced with black ribbons, a skirt featuring poker elements, and lake blue and black striped stockings create a vibrant visual effect without feeling cluttered. The wig is silver-grey, and combined with the single-sided curled bun and the choker, the overall playfulness is well-executed. While using the microphone as a prop, I specifically adjusted the angle of my grip—it couldn't block my face, yet it had to look natural. Walking all day in these white-soled black ribbon high heels was exhausting, especially running around streets, stairs, and cobblestone paths, putting immense pressure on my feet. However, to capture that light and lively state, I had to keep a smile and maintain high energy.
Photographer NightDiva was very meticulous with the lighting this time, as shooting night scenes without boards or supplemental lighting often causes facial shadows or overexposed backgrounds. For the pose leaning against the black pillar, the studio light used a soft accessory; the light hit from the side-front, brightening my facial contours while preserving the atmosphere of the lanterns behind me. The round light spots at my feet were specially created by the photographer to add a stage-like feel, which fits the lively and extroverted personality of the 'Gluttonous Highness' quite well.
Shooting cosplay in a semi-open commercial area like OCT really tests one's mindset. There are quite a few passersby, and sometimes to get a clean background, I had to repeat shots multiple times in the same spot, waiting for gaps where no one was passing. The scene elements here are very rich, like the red wood panel walls, benches, and corridors full of lanterns, making them perfect for street-style photography. However, the lighting in these areas is complex, with both overhead lights and side signage lights, so the color balance in post-processing required minor adjustments to ensure the texture of the white dress didn't shift too much.
There were many small episodes during the shoot, like the lace under the dress easily getting caught on pillars or wooden stools; I had to be mindful of the skirt's hem to prevent tearing. Also, my wrist would ache from holding the long microphone for too long, so I would quietly shake my hand during the moments the camera was away. This experience feels very real; although the final product looks light and burden-free, the scene was about everyone cooperating, adjusting camera angles, and fine-tuning light intensity.
Regarding the portrayal of the character, I believe the eyes are key. You can't just stand there expressionless; there needs to be a bit of playfulness and agility. For the shots sitting on the wooden bench, I slightly lifted my chin or held the edge of my skirt, looking at the lens inadvertently. In the shot leaning against the pillar, with one leg touching the ground and slightly raised, body weight shifted, I captured that casual yet proud feeling.
It has been a while since this shoot, but I still remember the temperature of the evening and night at OCT clearly. It was cool when the breeze blew, but there were always people busy moving around, photography equipment set up on the roadside, occasionally drawing curious glances from passersby, which soon faded. It was a rare outdoor experience, naturally blending 2D elements with the real street. I didn't deliberately think about how perfect I had to be; as long as I captured that lively spirit of the moment, it was enough. That, in itself, is a very joyful thing.
