Continuous rainy and overcast weather unexpectedly brought an extraordinary texture to this shoot. Puddles on the ground reflected the grayish-white sky, and light passing through the clouds became very soft. This diffused light left almost no strong shadows on the face, making it especially suitable for capturing a clear, translucent skin texture. This time I wore a classic white-based sailor suit with a black collar, paired with a dark blue bow and a black pleated skirt. To avoid the overall color being too monotonous, I deliberately chose black stockings to increase visual layering, matched with platform black loafers, making the overall styling more aligned with the Japanese campus style. The blue sports bag carried in hand is not only a prop but also helps empty hands find a natural placement position while taking photos.
The temperature on the day of the shoot was actually a bit muggy; despite it being an overcast photo shoot, going up and down the outdoor stairs still worked up a light layer of sweat. However, the texture of the black stockings in front of the lens is truly great; by slightly adjusting the standing posture, it can nicely refine the leg lines. I tried several different poses, such as leaning against the white railing, lifting one leg to step on the edge of the railing, or walking up the steps and blocking my forehead with a hand pretending to shield from the rain. The photographer made full use of the building's own lines during composition, creating a strong sense of depth with the white railings and gray steps, preventing the frame from looking flat. We also communicated for a long time on site, discussing which angles could best highlight the pairing of black stockings and pleated skirts. Finally, we decided to utilize the height difference of the stairs, shooting from bottom to top or at eye level, which not only elongated the leg proportions but also showcased the cut of the sailor suit.
Shooting on an overcast day actually tests lighting quite a bit because without a primary light source, it's easy for photos to turn out bland and ordinary. Therefore, we would find slightly brighter spots or use reflectors to fill light on the face, ensuring the facial features remain three-dimensional. This time the location was chosen in an outdoor corridor and stairs, where the green trees and distant buildings in the overcast atmosphere carried a cool, aloof tone. I particularly love the photo where I am stepping on the railing; the moment I turned my head sideways with the breeze swaying my ponytail, the state of the skirt and hair strands was very natural, and the pairing of black stockings and loafers just happened to showcase a bit of a mature, sophisticated vibe. Although the ground was wet and muddy, requiring me to lift the skirt slightly to avoid getting it dirty, these minor situations actually made the shooting process more authentic and interesting. The collar design of the sailor suit nicely refined the neck lines, and coupled with the twin-tail hairstyle, the whole person looked both well-behaved and slightly rebellious.
The entire set of photos did not use overly complex props, relying mainly on the structural sense of the scene and the character's body language to prop up the frame. The skirt arc of the black pleated skirt when turning around looks very nice, and the subtle highlights formed by light and shadow on the black stockings also elevated the texture quite a bit. Although the weather was gloomy, the overall output effect lacked some of the sweet stickiness of bright sunshine, offering instead an extra sense of coolness and tranquility. For those who love the uniform style, this unique atmospheric vibe of rainy/overcast days is actually quite rare. Putting away the umbrella, stepping on the slightly damp steps, listening to the sound of the camera shutter, and recording this unique post-rain memory made it a very pleasant shooting experience.
