For this Yor cosplay shoot from SPY×FAMILY, I staged the session in a studio featuring a black-and-white checkerboard floor and a vintage grand piano. Considerable effort went into costume, hair, and makeup: the wig was meticulously cut with blunt bangs and an elegant updo, paired with crimson contact lenses to faithfully capture that subtly lethal glint in her eyes. The attire was a black silk-textured dress where the leather harness straps across the bodice served as the defining visual accent. The deep crimson patterned train at the back, paired with over-the-knee Black stockings and glossy patent high heels, established an intense Retro Gothic aesthetic. For props, I prepared golden Dual weapons (stiletto needles) and a black rose to deepen the compositional layers.
To capture Yor's dual nature during shooting, the choreography incorporated numerous combat poses—such as lunging sideways while thrusting the golden Dual weapons, kneeling to coil strength, or lounging languidly across a velvet sofa. The Black stockings and structured long dress created noticeable physical restriction during dynamic movements; especially when executing wider action stances, I had to continuously adjust the trailing hem to prevent wardrobe slips while preserving an ethereal, flowing silhouette. Photographing deep-toned garments poses a rigorous test for lighting. We used a key light to illuminate the face and metallic hardware, supplemented by side rim lighting to carve out bodily contours, preventing the shadows from turning flat or muddy while preserving the lustrous silk sheen of the dress.
Framed by crimson velvet drapery and a golden crystal chandelier, the crimson contacts and cool-toned makeup made the character instantly pop from the dark backdrop. The sofa sequence captured my favorite mood: completely relaxing into the set with arms crossed, legs naturally extended, and eyes gazing level into the lens—that calm yet scrutinizing aura resonated flawlessly with Yor's character. The entire shoot was a process of micro-adjusting prop angles, eyelines, and the geometric drape of the train. Wrapping up this set granted me a fresh understanding of Yor: whether in her cold, lethal combat stance or her gentle warmth toward her family, both facets became vividly realized before the camera.
