This school uniform style design hides a lot of clever touches, such as the asymmetrical circular badge with characters on the chest, adding a visual focus to the originally clean, pure white collar. The yellow tie and the red and blue color-clashed stripes on the edges of the cuffs form a great color harmony with the deep blue wig. To recreate that agile, lightweight feeling, the wig's layers were specifically trimmed to ensure the hair ends rest naturally on the shoulders without looking stiff. The green colored contacts serve as the visual anchor of the makeup, and paired with the faint aegyosal under the eyes, they make the entire face appear clear and spirited in front of the lens, avoiding an overly heavy makeup feel while making the gaze look more vivid and natural.
During the shoot, I experimented with several expression styles based on the traits of this cosplay outfit. First, gently touching the lips with an index finger while staring directly at the lens brought out a contrast intertwining cool detachment and approachability. During the close-up wink, stretching out a hand to make a grasping motion or using a hand to hold the black bowler hat nicely transformed the originally formal silhouette of the uniform into a lively slice-of-life feel.
This combination of a hat and a double-layered collar actually poses high requirements on the pattern silhouette. If the fabric is selected too stiff, the collar easily pops up when sitting down, making it look bloated. Therefore, we specifically chose a slightly softer yet supportive cloth, so that no matter how the body shifts angles, the silhouette at the shoulders can remain three-dimensional. The cuffs were tightened to subtly reveal the wristlines, making the arms appear more slender. The skirt chose a light greyish-green pleated style, with the matte fabric and the top's luster forming a low-key layering effect in the visual field.
The metallic buckles on the shoulders and arms, along with the metal chain at the waist, are also the finishing touches of the entire outfit. Before every click of the shutter, these small accessories had to be adjusted to the correct positions to avoid any angular deviations during shooting. Compared to other characters from MiHoYo games I tried before, this color scheme is much more lightweight, using blue, white, and grey as primary colors with a touch of yellow to brighten it up. It is exceptionally suited for shooting under bright and soft indoor lighting. The color texture emerging from the raw photos is very clean, requiring only minor post-processing adjustments to contrast and brightness to finish.
The short hairstyle gave me a lot of room to maneuver in this aspect. Because there are no thick bangs obstructing the line of sight, the sense of communication through eye contact is passed down very directly. Slightly tilting the head or simply blinking can instantly bring out a playful vibe. This set of images didn't utilize too many accompanying props, hoping to concentrate all attention on the detailed elements of the outfit, showcasing this character's natural and energetic daily state in the most straightforward manner.
Getting the poses right is one thing, but the coordination of hair, makeup, and demeanor is also highly important. I am used to loosening up my expressions in front of a mirror during shooting intervals, hunting for the best micro-expressions for the character. The pairing of leg rings and thigh-high socks, though revealing only a small area, happens to appear at the edge of the frame, adding a sliver of playfulness. When facing this kind of lightweight character, maintaining an overall sense of relaxation is the absolute key; there's no need to intentionally put on airs. The more relaxed and casual the posture, the more vivid and cute the finished product becomes. The lighting adopted a soft light coming from the front and slightly above. This lighting position can beautifully preserve both the luster on the hair and the three-dimensional shadows of facial features, making the final output photos look healthy and natural in texture. Lacking excessive filters, it conversely better embodies the original design beauty of this outfit while serving as an excellent white studio pose reference for an ACG Cosplayer.
