[Nico cosplay] A Corporate Worker in Her Late 20s Undergoes a Weekend Extreme Makeover — Zenless Zone Zero

For Boss Nico from Zenless Zone Zero, I did my absolute best to bring her to life this time. Don't be fooled by the cool, spicy punk girl in the photos—in reality, I'm just a corporate worker in my late 20s. This extreme transformation was all about delivering that gap-moe contrast in this Punk hot girl cosplay.

Waking up early on the weekend, I sat in front of the mirror to begin construction. It took nearly an hour just to comb out the long pink curly wig; especially for those two high twin-tails, the roots needed plenty of fluffiness to stay faithful to the design. The black-and-yellow flat hair clip on the bangs was the finishing touch, while for the red crescent mark on my forehead, I layered eyeliner and concealer repeatedly to capture the crispness from the official artwork. I deliberately chose light green contact lenses; paired with a slightly spaced-out, lazy yet badass gaze, I managed to capture about 70 to 80 percent of Nico's soul.

The outfit was truly the centerpiece of this makeover. The black-and-white striped cropped top, paired with a black choker and heart-shaped pendant at the neckline, accentuated the clavicle with sculpted depth. The black leather detached sleeves on the shoulders with white cuff stitching offered a unique texture. The bottom half features black leather shorts edged with white faux fur trim. I particularly love the black garter ring on the thigh, adorned with intricate yellow rivet studs, combined with these black over-the-knee socks for a complete Long socks outfit. Indeed, you can see the effect of pairing stockings with thigh garters in the photos—this design provides a secure fit while exuding rebellious allure, fitting Boss Nico's vibe flawlessly. Stepping into chunky platform combat boots, just standing there without saying a word maxed out the aura.

Props and gear were naturally indispensable. I held onto that vibrant green plush monster doll the whole time; it practically became my emotional support talisman. A dark blue suitcase decorated with white star patterns stayed by my right side throughout. During the shoot, sitting directly on the suitcase as a makeshift seat and kicking up a foot immediately brought out that relaxed streetwise bad-girl energy. This pose turned out to be the most photogenic: seated on the case, the Long socks outfit and combat boots occupied the lower third of the frame, drawing all visual focus to the leg lines and waist harness details.

However, while ideals are grand, reality is harsh. As I mentioned in my post, the combination of our outdoor fantasy location and sudden torrential rain totally shattered my hot-girl dream. We originally planned to shoot outdoors in a scenic spot for maximum atmosphere, but an unexpected heavy downpour threw our plans into chaos. You can only imagine how frustrating that felt! The funniest part was my side-head bow accessory—it was supposed to be pinned to the side of my head, but I lost it while walking on the way. The moment that bow went missing, it felt like a little piece of my heart shattered with it. Although I powered through by securing things with spare clips, I couldn't help but sigh inwardly at the mishap.

Fortunately, we found great indoor shooting spots for these Convention photos. The lighting in the photos combined the venue's overhead lighting with reflector fill light, capturing the pink wig with a matte, velvety texture. To channel Nico's cocky yet languid swagger, I made specific adjustments to my facial expressions: no wide smiles, and even showing a hint of lower sclera (sanpaku eyes) was the right key. Hands on hips, flashing a peace sign, or holding the suitcase with one hand—these subtle gestures were spontaneously improvised on-site at the expo, looking far more natural than rigid posing in this Nico cosplay.

This is the record of a corporate worker's extreme transformation. Every time I do cosplay, it feels like an earnest effort to break away from the mundane grind of daily life. Even if torrential rain disrupted our plans, even if a bow went missing, and even if the garter straps left slight marks on my thighs, the moment I saw the final photos, the sheer joy of "I finally pulled it off" eclipsed all the fatigue. This set ranks among my most satisfying Convention photos; although presented as a collage, it captures diverse facets of my portrayal. A convention experience like this—badass yet sprinkled with minor imperfections—is perhaps the greatest charm of cosplay.
