Pushing open the wooden door of the café with the Vintage red camera in hand, I immediately caught the warm scent of old books mixed with coffee beans. Before heading out with Blade for our formal photoshoot, we picked up a highly true-to-life snippet right here.
We really didn't force any poses; hanging the Vintage red camera around my neck, we just watched the light stream through the woven bamboo blinds and rest on the tabletop. This little red camera is today's main character—heavy in hand, with a wonderful texture. I originally thought about shooting more Live photos to record those fleeting, agile moments, but unfortunately, my Huawei phone completely locked up the Live photo function. I could only record those fragments of the wind lifting hair strands and the interaction between the two of us into a video, finally squeezing them into my latest vlog.
Once the makeup, hair, and costumes were in position, getting into character was actually smoother than I expected. Blade's layered black hair looked relaxed and natural against his white shirt, and with my sunglasses propped up over my red hair, it felt as though the characters had genuinely stolen an afternoon of leisure in this world. I especially love those few moments of leaning back on the sofa and aiming the shutter at each other—no studio lights, no reflectors, just the yellow glow emitted by the vintage wall lamps and our spontaneous movements within this retro space.
Many friends who enjoy Casual cosplay might be obsessed with polishing the frame to absolute perfection, but I feel that when a person puts on an outfit and steps into a corner of real life, their breathing and pace of life inherently add a new footnote to the character. For instance, when I teased Blade, she subconsciously crossed her arms, or the two of us sat under the bookshelf leaning against each other. This body language carries a specific unspoken rapport; it requires no acting, it's just a natural outpouring under the circumstances.
We like to think we succeeded in bringing the characters into daily life. We often see in many fan works that characters will also mingle in the spaces of ordinary people, ordering an iced Americano or staring blankly at a wall hanging. So when we actually realized this scene in the real world, it felt uniquely magical.
During the process of taking photos, familiar shopkeepers would pass by from time to time, look at our outfits, and compliment us on how nice we looked. This kind of stranger's kindness and small talk made the atmosphere feel even more intimate. The clicking sound of the shutter recorded many frames that had nothing to do with composition, but were overflowing with emotion.
This relaxed, everyday feel is something that cannot be deliberately chased in a formal photoshoot. The hour or so spent in the café turned out to be the most peaceful segment of the day instead. Photos don't lie; the smiles on our faces and the relaxed light in our eyes were all because we were genuinely enjoying the experience at that exact moment. Through the lens of the Vintage red camera, a record of us in another dimension spending a quiet afternoon tea was captured. As for the rest of the story, I'll slowly share it with everyone in the vlog.
