While organizing my photo albums, I'm posting these convention photos from my Yanqing cosplay at the Worldline convention on January 27th for archiving. As a Xianzhou swordsman character from Honkai: Star Rail that I personally love, recreating his combat stances and everyday expressions at the anime convention was a very special experience.
Regarding the outfit, the main color scheme features teal-blue, white, and black, accented with red lines. The traditional Chinese frog button design on the upper outfit was reinforced with inner linings by the tailor to maintain a crisp collar silhouette. The waist is the visual centerpiece of this look—a wide black and silver belt paired with a metallic feather-shaped buckle ornament, plus crossed teal-blue straps, requiring precise wrapping to show symmetrical aesthetics. The bell on the left wrist adds huge points; when moving or striking combat poses, the light ringing sound instantly boosts my immersion.
The weapon prop also took quite a bit of effort. This teal-blue longsword has a very memorable design and carries a decent weight in hand. To capture the swordsman's sharp agility, whether holding it horizontally with both hands or slinging it over one shoulder, I had to find my center of gravity so the captured poses looked stable. During shooting, we specifically looked for spots with natural light or backlighting; the light cast a glossy sheen on my golden hair, and together with that iconic ahoge, the overall silhouette and Xianzhou's airy atmosphere were right on point.
This photo set was shot at the Chengdu Worldline Anime Exhibition. Although there were many passersby in the convention photos background, the photographer's rhythm in candid captures was great. Dynamic poses like extending one hand forward or raising one leg to store energy, combined with post-processed skill light effects, brought out Yanqing's sharp yet youthful, confident traits as much as possible.
Recreating Yanqing's facial demeanor was actually the trickiest part. Despite his young age, he possesses a strong presence; his eyes need to express determination without appearing overly fierce. So during the shoot, I tried various expressions—focus during battle, cool detachment gazing into the distance, and occasional relaxed smiles—hoping to showcase the character's multifaceted nature.
Although these January convention photos are posted now, I'm actually most excited about the upcoming May 2nd Worldline event. As promised in the post, I'll go look for Master Jing Yuan for a photo, as the master-disciple bond between Yanqing and General Jing Yuan is truly touching. I hope to luckily meet "Master" at the May Day convention; successfully getting a joint shot to complete a master-disciple interaction would be a super fun convention experience.
Organizing this archive also serves as a small summary of my recent cosplay state. From outfit/makeup/prop preparation to polishing pose designs, and understanding how different light and shadow complement movements, every shoot accumulates plenty of experience. Looking forward to setting off again in May, and hoping to unlock more fun shooting approaches within the Honkai: Star Rail universe in the future!
