[Megumi Kato Cosplay] Background Heroine Megumi Kato: This Red Cardigan and White Tights Outfit Is Truly Everyday Casual

Cosplaying Megumi Kato at CICF this time, I arranged this set of convention photos right after receiving the costume. To capture the character's understated, gentle temperament, the inner layer featured an accordion-pleated white shirt tied at the collar with a slender black ribbon bow, layered under her signature red knit cardigan. The lower half was a multi-tiered white pleated mini skirt, where the thin white cord at the waist cinched the silhouette nicely. This outfit stood out quite vividly on the convention floor, with the striking red-and-white color contrast photographing wonderfully in natural light.

Because Megumi Kato is inherently such an everyday, relatable character, I avoided forcing exaggerated anime poses, focusing instead on capturing a slice-of-life naturalness. Poses like resting hands on hips, standing on one leg while carrying a brown tote bag, or making a heart gesture toward the lens all felt very organic. For accuracy to the design, I dedicated thought to subtle details: the socks were white over-the-knee tights stockings finished with lace trim and delicate black ribbon bows at the cuffs, paired with brown uniform loafers to visually lengthen the leg lines. The little white bunny charm dangling from the brown bag was a playful personal touch I added to make the overall look slightly more whimsical.

For hair and makeup, to highlight the character's signature look, I wore a blunt-bangs bob wig and placed makeup emphasis around the eyes, defining the aegyo-sal and softly blending under-eye shadows to enhance an innocent charm. When scouting locations outside the venue, the sunlight was intensely bright, so we favored three-quarter backlighting angles as much as possible; this caught a glowing rim light along the contours of the hair and made the overall frame look much more luminous. Background Heroine naturally centers on everyday school life, so for pose coaching, I relaxed as much as possible rather than striking complex postures.

Shooting on-site at a bustling convention meant not only braving the sweltering heat, but also constantly dodging crowds and cluttered backgrounds. Many of these frames were taken with a wide-aperture lens, delivering creamy background blur that locked the visual focus entirely on the subject. There were several moments during the shoot when the harsh backlighting made it nearly impossible to keep my eyes fully open, yet seeing the warm color palette captured in camera made every bit of effort worthwhile.

While this ensemble looks simple at first glance, wearing and maintaining it proved quite time-consuming—especially keeping the white over-the-knee socks and white shirt spotless from stray smudges. The fabric of the red cardigan was also prone to creasing, requiring a quick reset every time we moved spots. Nevertheless, being able to showcase Megumi Kato's casual yet enchanting presence through cosplay was a genuinely joyful experience.
