This Clara cosplay shoot was actually in the works for a long time, with the main challenge being building the set. Wanting to skip standard photo studios, I simply cleared out my own garage and revamped it from scratch. To capture the retro sci-fi and wasteland aesthetic of Honkai: Star Rail, I brought in an old bulky CRT television, several black industrial metal drums, and car tires, finishing it off by stringing vibrant orange-red neon tube lights across the wall. This raw, rugged industrial environment creates an incredible contrast that accentuates Clara's delicate, innocent aura, while her red coat commands stunning visual presence against the moody backdrop.

When it came to wardrobe and styling, I poured serious effort into refining the details. Clara's signature pale pink long straight hair underwent multiple styling sessions; to make the blunt bangs and cheek-framing hime-cut side locks look completely natural on camera, I constantly fine-tuned the hair flow between takes. The crimson contact lenses are the soul of the look, instantly drawing you into character. The coat was tailored from a crisp, structured fabric, layered over an inner khaki striped vest to immediately establish rich dimension. I also added a black leather thigh garter, which lends extra texture and visual interest during close-ups and seated poses.

Lighting during the shoot was crucial. Because the garage itself was pitch-dark, we primarily relied on a warm key light set at a side-back angle. This not only gently illuminated my face, but also cast sharp shadows across the concrete walls, adding a cinematic narrative weight to each frame. The orange neon tubes in the background served as ambient lighting, infusing the entire composition with a distinctive fusion of retro and cyberpunk mood.

When portraying Clara, I always imagined her as someone facing an unknown world and seeking protection. Many of the poses—such as leaning against the CRT monitor or reaching out as if grasping for support—were attempts to capture that slightly bewildered, pleading nuance of 'Help me, Mr. Svarog!' For the shot seated on the floor, we used a low-angle wide lens with subtle perspective distortion; bathed in the crimson glow, her vulnerability and dramatic contrast truly came alive. Although hauling heavy props and tweaking lights was exhausting, seeing the final interplay of light, shadow, and Clara's demeanor made every day spent working in the garage totally worthwhile. If time permits, I'd love to experiment with even more diverse custom sets in the future.
