[Klee Cosplay] Knights of Favonius Spark Knight: Nighttime Beach Raid

Choosing a sandy beach at night for this Genshin Impact Klee Cosplay shoot was definitely a unique decision. From the moment I received the costume and props, I was brainstorming location ideas, eventually deciding on this beach with virtually no light pollution. Klee from Genshin Impact, as the Spark Knight, is always active in all sorts of whimsical scenarios, and the nighttime beach vibe fits that slightly mysterious yet adventure-filled setting perfectly.

For costume preparation, first came the iconic large red hat with white trim. To keep its shape structured, a sturdy internal frame was used, and the animal ears on both sides were tightly connected to the hat to prevent deformation while walking. The upper blouse features lantern sleeves with ruffle designs, paired with a black choker and a red ribbon bow, staying very true to the character's elements. The skirt utilizes a multi-layered design; the outer red-and-white fabric has a nice drape, while the inner lace trimming and pumpkin shorts add a rich sense of layering. The black round-toe leather shoes paired with white lace-trimmed mid-calf socks and the small red ribbons at the sock cuffs formed excellent highlight reflection zones under direct strobe light, creating a stable visual center for the lower body.

As for the prop gun, it was a crucial element of this set. The craftsmanship and material of this gun were solid; it felt pleasantly heavy in hand, far from a flimsy plastic toy. The wooden parts of the body were given a distressed finish, while the black barrel had a matte coating texture, clearly reflecting a metallic weight when frontally illuminated. Although holding it was quite challenging due to its length—requiring substantial arm strength to keep steady—the final shots created a visual contrast between the weapon's intimidating force and the character's petite stature, which was one of the core ideas this Genshin Impact cosplay set aimed to express.

During the actual shoot, for the outdoor night photography lighting, I used a high-power outdoor strobe with a standard reflector, filling light from a 45-degree angle above the front side of the subject. The benefit of this lighting setup is that it maximizes the definition of facial contours, making eyelashes, catchlights in the eyes, and hair highlights crystal clear. At the same time, the hard shadows created by this intense light added dramatic tension, making the character appear like an elf appearing out of nowhere in the pitch-black night. The dark background and sand textures, illuminated by the spill of the strobe light, created a rugged outdoor aesthetic.

In terms of character portrayal, Klee's cuteness isn't just surface sweetness; it needs to show that slightly rebellious, explosive charm. So I deliberately adjusted my expression, aiming for a subtly confident, slightly upturned gaze rather than pure cute posing. The pose with the gun was inspired by that casual stance of an anime girl from the game, leaning the center of gravity slightly forward as if ready to dash out at any moment. The shooting process involved constantly refining pose details, which was quite tough to maintain given the nighttime temperatures and sea breeze.

For makeup design, I opted for a clean, translucent base paired with slightly curled eyelashes, using a natural soft rose lip color to avoid heavy makeup that might ruin the character's youthful look. The wig was a layered light gold, with slightly curved bangs that framed the face contour nicely. With these detailed touches enhancing the overall costume accuracy, it became easy in front of the lens to evoke that lively yet surprisingly powerful character.

Although this was just a regular cosplay photoshoot, trying out different environments and lighting setups helps improve technique every time. What I find most fascinating is that moment frozen in light and shadow—turning anime girl imagination into real photography.
