[Cerydra cosplay & Helektra cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Duo by the Midnight Waters

This time, we brought two characters from Honkai: Star Rail to life—Cerydra and Helektra—partnering up to shoot this series of night scenes. Seeing friends previously asking what aesthetic suits this waterside night view, we decided to make the reef area along the water our primary location for this Night view cosplay session.

Let's talk about specific character recreations. For Cerydra cosplay, the blue-and-white dress is packed with rich details along the neckline and bodice, especially the modular pieces featuring black-and-white checkerboard patterns; we made multiple rounds of tailoring adjustments to match the silhouette. The blue-and-white feather headpiece atop the wig and the luminous staff in hand served as core visual props for the shoot. Once powered on at night, the staff's internal battery and LED strips emitted a piercing blue glow, offering a much more immersive, cyberpunk, yet ethereal nocturnal light source compared to daytime shooting.

Helektra cosplay, on the other hand, features an alternating dark-and-light black-and-red palette with long tassels; the overall tactile depth and morphed shoulder accents grant high recognizability. The long-handled polearm held in hand showed crisp lines in the darkness, harmonizing with the skirt design and Black tights outfit to project a chilling, mysterious aura. In terms of fabric materials, splicing two distinct textiles created fantastic texture contrast under the refraction of warm yellow and cool blue lighting.

The shooting process was far more demanding than expected. The winds by the river were fierce at night, especially in Photo 2 where both of us stood firmly atop the reef rocks—our skirts and capes billowed constantly in the gale, substantially raising the difficulty for the photographer to achieve sharp focus. We repeatedly shifted our stance to align the fluttering fabric with the compositional leading lines. My wig and headpiece were heavy, meaning I didn't dare turn my head abruptly, keeping my center of gravity strictly grounded. The water surface shimmered with faint points of light, and combined with the crisp, cold air, immersion was off the charts.

Photo 1 is a close-up selfie taken beneath the streetlamp. The warm yellow light cast across our faces illuminated details of our makeup, contacts, and wigs with pristine clarity, showcasing the blended eyeshadow and subtle reddish eye contouring. Photo 2 is a vertical full-body finished shot. It was nearing midnight by then; though our bodies felt fatigued, standing by the water looking out toward the distant horizon—accented by the glowing prop—instantly summoned the cool, sharp presence inherent to these two Honkai: Star Rail characters.

Night scenes like this heavily rely on the seamless coordination of outdoor strobes and reflector boards. To keep skin looking fair and translucent without letting the environment fall into pitch-black void, we tested numerous lighting setups before settling on the contrasting warm-and-cool texture seen in the frame. Shooting in such dark, moody settings truly tests team synergy—from prop illumination stability to draping skirt silhouettes, every link pushed our limits.

Throughout the shoot, we also discussed much of these characters' lore and backstory. Seeing styles infused with sci-fi and mythological elements materialize beside a real natural waterfront evoked a wonderful sense of breaking the fourth wall. Personally, I feel night shooting actually allowed the jacquard patterns—ordinarily invisible in daylight—to reveal their sheen, with cool color tones harmonizing seamlessly with the characters' underlying keynote.

From initial preparations to wrapping up, the outdoor location shoot demanded far more time and energy than anticipated. From styling and fluffing wigs to securing heavy headpieces and balancing long weapons, every minute detail required rehearsal in advance. Although our hands and feet were numb with cold upon packing up, seeing the deep ambient lighting and water reflections captured in the camera made every bit of hardship entirely worthwhile.
