Partnering with Hezi-ge to shoot the Brother and sister characters from "Honkai: Star Rail" was truly thrilling. We selected a vintage theater-style studio featuring dark red drapes, black-and-white checkered flooring, and gold carved picture frames—a backdrop that perfectly complements the character's gorgeous and mysterious aura. From initial planning to actual shooting, we strove to capture Penacony's unique sense of grandeur.
Regarding Robin cosplay preparation, a lot of effort went into her look. Her light blue hair required precise trimming and styling, especially the side bangs, to achieve a curve that naturally frames the face. The halo ornament atop her head, combined with soft feather wings near her ears, keeps the overall temperament airy rather than heavy. Outfit-wise, the deep blue and white color-blocking exudes elegance, complemented by a star-shaped metal clasp at the collar and gold decorative chains for rich visual layering. The front chest design paired with voluminous sleeves captures a distinct European classical dress flavor. To align with character lore, small star accents were added to her eye makeup, producing subtle shimmers under lighting that make her gaze appear even more lively.
During shooting, we conceptualized several distinct scenarios. The first group was an interactive scene between us: I sat on a chair holding the star-marked blue book and wand while Hezi-ge stood behind me in a protective stance. This positioning nicely reflected the interdependent atmosphere between Brother and sister characters. Then came individual close-ups; for instance, as I held an exquisite hand mirror—originally intending to evoke self-reflection—the photographer creatively had four hands holding makeup brushes reach in from the frame edge, instantly creating a surreal theatrical dislocation that added tremendous fun to the photos.
The footwear featured a pair of deep blue high heels with a subtle star motif on the toe cap. To elongate leg lines during the shoot, we took many side-angle seated shots, perfect for showcasing the combination of leg contours and heels.
When shooting characters embedded with rich narrative depth, mastering facial expressions is essential. Though gentle and sweet on the surface, Robin possesses strong conviction and independent resolve. Thus, before the camera, I refrained from appearing overly delicate, infusing a hint of sharp, independent thought into her gaze. For instance, in the picture frame close-up where I make a "shh" gesture, my eyes convey depth rather than pure sweetness.
Studio lighting played a critical role as well. The high saturation of red drapes can easily look muddy if lit improperly, but fortunately, the photographer utilized soft diffuse lighting and side rim lights to crisply outline character contours, delivering excellent texture highlights on gold and silver costume fittings.
Reflecting on their character dynamics, even if they might walk diverging paths, their mutual guardianship and underlying bond endure forever. Expressing this emotion through body language often speaks louder than words.
Sharing these client photos goes beyond showcasing cosplay costume and makeup accuracy—we hope to convey the true atmospheric resonance of the characters. We hope this Robin cosplay attire leaves a bright mark before the lens and that everyone on HoYoLAB or beyond can feel the story embedded within these visuals.
