[Keqing Cosplay] Night Shoot Memories in the Endless Summer Hydrangea Flowers

The opportunity to shoot this set of photos came because I happened to come across a patch of beautifully blooming Endless Summer Hydrangea. The blue flower clusters and the character's own blue-purple color scheme are visually highly coordinated, so we decided to do such a night view outdoor shoot at dusk. The photographer @萧写信📝 is very experienced in lighting; instead of shooting the night pitch black, they used a soft artificial light source to precisely capture the material texture of the wig and the dress.

For this styling outfit, the wig selected was a lighter shade of lilac purple with plenty of volume, and a pair of fluffy animal ear hair accessories was configured on the crown, featuring small metal bells and dark hairbands. This is not only the signature element of the character but also provided a strong cute point in the actual shoot. The clothing is a blue-and-white dress design, using a large area of glossy blue fabric on the chest and cuffs, combined with details of translucent tulle layers and pearl chains, making the overall look appear gorgeous without being bloated. The curved silhouette of the sleeves is beautifully crafted, both preserving the character's sharpness and increasing the lightness of the dress. The neckline adopts a dark choker design, making the neck line look longer and more elegant.

During the shoot, we chose a large aperture to blur the background, turning the distant hydrangeas and leaves into soft color blocks, highlighting the silhouette of the subject. The angle in Picture 3 where I turn around, raise my hand, and look at the camera is one I'm personally very satisfied with, because this posture beautifully showcases the layers of the clothing's back, revealing the neck and shoulder lines, while coordinating with the black over-knee stockings on the lower body to capture excellent visual contrast. When shooting this kind of anime-style photography outdoors, makeup and styling are also very crucial. This time, to fit the overall cool-toned atmosphere, ice-blue colored contacts were worn, paired with an orange-red lipstick to brighten the facial complexion. This collision of cold and warm tones allowed the face to look well-contoured and three-dimensional under the flash. The eyelashes were also enhanced, so that even in low-light environments, the gaze remains full of spirit.

Night shoots actually present a certain level of challenge, especially when holding a traditional-style oil-paper umbrella. The wooden handle of the umbrella is quite smooth, and when movements required opening the canopy or holding the umbrella behind the shoulders, to ensure that the canopy wouldn't block the lighting, the photographer and I repeatedly adjusted the angle of the arms. However, precisely because of having this umbrella as a prop, the backward glance presented in Picture 1 has a balance between movement and stillness, where the texture of the paper umbrella and the wrinkles of the clothing form an echo in terms of lines.

Additionally, when shooting characters with flowing elements like this, the wind in the outdoor environment is both a friend and an enemy. When a gentle breeze moves the wig and the tulle sleeves, it can add dynamics and breathing room to the frame. If the wind is too strong, the hair easily plasters onto the face or blocks the colored contacts, so capturing the moment requires a high shutter speed. In post-processing, we didn't do overly exaggerated color distortions, but instead retained the saturation of the hydrangeas themselves, shifting the highlights slightly toward cool colors and pressing the shadows deeper, giving the entire set of photos a fairy-tale texture of a "blue garden under the moonlight."

The effect of the final photos exceeded my own expectations, and several fellow hobbyists also affirmed the details of the costume, makeup, and props upon seeing them. The meaning of taking photos is probably to freeze a single second of stunning beauty in the senses. From scene selection, lighting, and the model's posture to the direction of every single strand of hair, every link condenses the thoughts of the creators.
