Shooting this Keqing cosplay at the Fugui Meow studio combined with a modern Chinese aesthetic set presented a distinct departure from her usual combat stances, bringing forth a tranquil and elegant grace.
Discussing the hair and makeup first, the costume design is rich in detail. The upper body features a black lace-spliced tube top with a heart-shaped cutout design, paired with a black choker and ribbon bow, adding depth while retaining the character's crisp sharpness. The blue-purple sheer arm wraps and flowing ribbons easily created dynamic fluttering movement on camera. The purple twin-tail wig was adorned with pearl hair accessories, complemented by silver-grey highlights to lend an ethereal touch. For makeup, to harmonize with the purple hair, I chose pinkish eyeshadow to deepen eye contours, giving the gaze a more vibrant, spirited allure.
The highlight of the shoot lay in the mastery of light and shadow. The Fugui Meow studio set exuded antique charm—solid wood traditional Chinese daybeds, white plush rugs, staggered calligraphy scrolls, and red-and-white floral branches hanging behind created a rich atmosphere for Traditional style studio photography. We utilized two distinct color-temperature lighting schemes: one featured a warm yellow key light paired with side rim-lighting to sculpt silhouettes, casting a gorgeous pearlescent sheen across skin and stockings that gave this Black tights outfit an elevated, sophisticated feel under the interplay of highlights and shadows. The other utilized cool blue-purple tones to evoke a more serene, distant mood, where warm lanterns provided accents—the warm-and-cool contrast infusing the visuals with narrative depth in this Anime-style photography project.
Adjusting poses required considerable thought. For instance, to emphasize leg lines, gently extending one leg forward while subtly angling the body allowed light and shadow to glide down the thighs. Paired with chunky lace-up high heels around the ankles, shifting my center of gravity upward instantly elevated the overall poise. The photographer was adept at capturing subtle details—such as posing hand gestures or casually resting a hand against the neck, nailing that Tsundere yet composed demeanor flawlessly. Finally, we brought in a white plush bunny prop; reclining slightly with a leg raised under the warm backlight softened the frame with a touch of playfulness.
In reality, shooting this character tested physical endurance the most. Wearing high heels on the traditional daybed and repeatedly shifting angles all afternoon kept my leg muscles constantly flexed, but seeing the dimensional lighting and texture in the sample photos made all fatigue vanish. The line in the caption—'Maybe never coming back, maybe returning tomorrow'—resonated deeply with this Chinese fatalistic atmosphere. Being able to interpret and preserve the character so authentically in the present is profoundly meaningful for any Genshin Impact cosplay enthusiast.
