Shooting this dress version of Sorasaki Hina cosplay from Blue Archive was even more immersive than expected.
Let's talk about the details of this styling first. The long white wig paired with curved black horns and red contact lenses instantly brings out character recognition. The dark blue velvet sleeveless off-the-shoulder dress features a neckline that beautifully flatters neck and shoulder lines. Long purple gloves are a bright highlight of the outfit, with velvet texture showing rich depth under cool lighting. White opaque pantyhose (White stockings) and black strap chunky heels form a classic high-contrast color palette of dark tones, white, and purple.
The shooting location was set in an indoor decorated piano room. A black grand piano sat in the center with open sheet music on the stand. Surrounded by blue-and-white flower cascades with a crystal chandelier hanging overhead, the overall cool-toned lighting gave off a strong "aloof recital" atmosphere in this Formal wear photography shoot. The floor's reflective effect was also fantastic, casting reflections of shoes and the piano bench, enriching the spatial depth of the frame.
For pose design, I attempted two distinct presentation styles. In the first photo, I sat upright on the piano bench with legs elegantly crossed and arms naturally folded before me, fitting the character's dignified and earnest side as much as possible. The second photo was a bit more relaxed—leaning forward over the piano lid, resting my weight on crossed arms, and even intentionally slipping off a black high heel to leave it tipped over on the floor, which added a touch of everyday realism.
Shooting characters in formal wear or gowns genuinely tests physical expressiveness. One must control proper decorum through gloves and skirt folds while retaining that slightly distant demeanor in the gaze. Combined with the on-site piano and blue-and-white bouquets, the overall image presents a dreamy yet restrained visual effect.
The makeup, styling, and lighting this time captured the cool aloofness and elegance I aimed for, with much care put into everything from wig grooming to accessory positioning. Being able to faithfully recreate the character through the lens in this manner was a deeply satisfying photoshoot experience for me.
