This Azur Lane Laffey cosplay makeup and styling look was shot during the CPGZ06 Comic Convention. Today, I'll dive into the details and thoughts behind creating this work, as well as share my shooting experience on-site.
Let's start with the makeup design, which focused on capturing the character's signature lazy yet subtly mysterious aura. To fit Laffey, I chose highly translucent red contact lenses; this high-contrast red pops remarkably before the lens, which, paired with slender and defined lower lashes, visually enlarged my eyes while keeping that innocent and lively look (a classic Silver-white hair and red eyes combination). For blush, I applied a generous wash under the eyes; the pinkish hue not only flatters the complexion but also evokes that "just woke up, slightly tipsy" flushed vibe that pairs wonderfully with the styling. A glossy lip tint added a plumping sheen under camera flashes.
Wig care was another major focus of the Cosplay makeup and styling. This silver-white wig has a clean color tone and a very silky texture. To prevent the wig from looking flat, I added gentle volume at the crown, trimmed the bangs with wispy ends to naturally graze the forehead, and kept the side locks long to flatter facial contours and add dynamic grace on camera. The blue ribbons in the hair accessories served as the visual highlight: the simple blue-and-white color block broke up the solid silver hair, injecting a touch of cool composure and playfulness.
In terms of the outfit, the choker and criss-cross harness design beautifully accent the neck and shoulder lines, and my absolute favorite detail is the little carrot charm in the center. The details on this small accessory are rendered so vividly—green leafy tops paired with an orange carrot add a vibrant warm accent against the overall cool-toned palette. Many fellow fans at the convention praised how cute the carrot looked, proving that faithful detail reproduction is always a key plus.
At a large-scale event like the CPGZ06 Comic Convention, finding a quiet moment to capture a satisfying photo set is genuinely challenging. The lighting inside was chaotic, so to capture a fresh and airy ambiance, I selected a spot near the outer perimeter of the venue where natural light was plentiful. In front of the camera, I consciously maintained a relaxed, casual posture. Just like the character herself, no exaggerated poses were needed; a gentle upward curve at the corner of my lips was enough to embody Laffey's sweet, approachable, and lazy persona. The photographer patiently captured many spontaneous, natural expressions, and I am personally thrilled with the final output.
Finally, reflecting on the overall convention experience: this Cosplay makeup and styling radiates a wonderful mood, especially in environments alternating between warm and cool lighting, where skin texture and hair color show rich tonal transitions. However, the silver-white hair reflects light easily under intense outdoor sunlight, requiring careful exposure control from the photographer. Additionally, red contact lenses appear quite sharp in high light, which, balanced with downward-diffused eyeshadow, creates great visual depth. Although attending a convention in cosplay is exhausting—from early morning makeup to wig styling, crowd management, and shooting—seeing the final photos makes every effort worthwhile. This look possesses great adaptability, yielding stunning results whether in a studio setting or shot outdoors at a busy comic convention like this one.
