The convention photos from Chengdu WorldLine Comic-Con are finally sorted out. This time I cosplayed Cheshire from Azur Lane, choosing this classic black-and-white maid dress ensemble. The details from the headdress to the skirt hem are wonderfully rich: a lace ribbon bow atop a wig transitioning from teal to soft gray, with the hair deliberately styled to ensure faithful character accuracy. For makeup, bright blue contact lenses were paired with soft pink blush and lip tint, creating an overall visual aesthetic closely attuned to her lively temperament.

Dimensional layering in the outfit was the standout highlight of this styling. The upper bodice features a sleeveless cut with delicate white lace frills bordering both the neckline and detached sleeves, layered with black ribbon bows at the chest, a choker with metal charms, and her signature identification card to pack the look with detail. The lower half features a tiered black-and-white petticoat skirt, with each layer edged in fine lace and tied at the back with long, cascading black ribbons. To complement the gown, I wore white stockings over-the-knee socks bordered with black lace ties at the cuffs, paired with chunky black block-heeled Mary Janes. Although walking in these heels all day across the convention hall left my feet quite sore, it was a necessary sacrifice for flattering proportions and camera-ready results.

While we captured several shots inside the exhibition hall during the day, we ultimately decided to supplement the set outdoors after dark. Nighttime portraiture is a real test of lighting mastery. The outdoor environment was pitch black with a virtually dark background, so we used off-camera strobes fitted with softboxes from both the front and side to cleanly separate the subject's silhouette from the night. This not only rendered the black-and-white textures of the fabric crisply, but also allowed distant urban lights to melt into creamy background bokeh, adding rich depth. During the shoot, the photographer wanted the skirt to look airy and fluid, so I kept twirling continuously; that dynamic flutter in Photo 1 was captured after spinning several rounds, looking far more organic than a static pose.

In terms of posing, Cheshire has such an energetic, cheerful personality that rigid standing postures simply wouldn't do. Photo 2 features a pose with one leg lifted and both arms outstretched, holding a prop adorned with long flowing ribbons to visually elongate body lines in the frame. Photo 3 captures a pose with one hand on my hip while balancing a tray in the other, cocking my head slightly to the side. Photo 4 shows a gentle forward lean with hands resting naturally in front. Executing these gestures in high heels demanded substantial core stability to keep my balance—especially the single-leg stance, where leaning my center of gravity slightly forward meant even the faintest wobble could disrupt the line's visual harmony. I always remind photographers that cosplay is never just slipping into a costume, but communicating a character's soul through body language. The lighting and dynamic skirt flow in this collection left me thrilled. The comic-con atmosphere in Chengdu is always incredible, and I look forward to meeting everyone next time in a brand-new look.
