I finally found the opportunity to shoot this "Pop Star" look for Azur Lane's Cheshire. To be honest, from receiving the outfit to finally deciding to shoot, I went through a long period of mental preparation, because the intricacy of its details and its overall physical weight went far beyond typical everyday cosplay costumes.
Let's start with the most eye-catching aspect of this styling. The satin gown, dominated by black and navy blue, offers fantastic texture—especially the gold tassel ornament at the bowtie on the chest, which catches the light beautifully during lighting setup and firmly anchors the character's elegant aura. However, the most meticulous element of this look is the accessorizing: the wide-brimmed witch hat on top features a blue gradient and white floral accents, with a subtle metallic sheen along the edge. What challenged me most was the staff with a metallic base; its top boasts a circular metal ring, a black-and-white color scheme, and embossed lettering, giving it substantial weight in hand. To hold it steadily throughout the shoot, I had to practice my hand posture and arm strength so my arms wouldn't look stiff in front of the lens.
The lower-body styling is one of my personal favorites. Delicate lace-trimmed black over-the-knee socks paired with glossy black patent leather heels create a wonderful textural transition under the lighting in this Black tights outfit. The lace rim of the black socks sits right at the mid-thigh, and paired with the heavy black fur stole draped around the waist, the character's silhouette becomes visually rich. This pairing of black hosiery with fur and dark formalwear generates a compelling material clash, where glossy and matte textures complement each other—the key to capturing stunning photos.
For the setting, we deliberately selected a classical study set featuring heavy red velvet curtains. The dark brown wooden bookshelves beside me were lined with rows of colorful hardcover books, adding a dense British vintage ambiance. The floor featured classic black-and-white checkerboard tiles, forming a bold contrast against the crimson curtains and dark wardrobe. The photographer adopted warm-toned lighting and created elongated shadows across the lower right frame, perfectly fitting the slightly mysterious and elegant theatrical stage atmosphere of Azur Lane's Cheshire.
In terms of posing, I chose a side-seated angle with one leg extended forward. This posture not only elongates the leg lines and showcases the visual appeal of the Black tights outfit and heels, but also harmoniously integrates the staff and the fur stole into the frame. The dark hair with gradient blue highlights revealed a unique cool tone under the lights, blending seamlessly with the character's overall temperament.
The challenge of shooting this set went far beyond the costume's weight; it was about capturing that distinctive sense of confidence while maintaining elegance. The wig styling was set to be fluffy, with careful attention paid to the curve of the bangs so they wouldn't obscure the eyes while retaining an airy quality. During the shoot, camera positions and focal lengths were switched multiple times to showcase every nuance of the props and attire.
The final results fully captured the intended aesthetic. Styling with subtle Gothic elements and a witch aesthetic truly requires the right environment and lighting to unleash its full charm. I'm thrilled to present the theatrical stage presence of Azur Lane's Cheshire through this Cheshire Cosplay, and I hope this detail-packed outfit lets everyone feel my dedication to recreating the character.
