[Laevatain cosplay] Remember Me by Sword and Flame

This shoot for Laevatain from Arknights had actually been in the works for quite a long time. While the character inherently embodies motifs of flame and steel, for this collection I wanted to explore a romantic aesthetic stripped of combat intensity. In early discussions with the photographer, we decided to ground the main backdrop with a pure white piano and sweeping blue-and-white floral arrangements, creating a striking visual tension that amplifies the vibrant red hair (Red hair cosplay) and pristine white gown.

Let's start with hair and makeup. The long, straight crimson hair is the very soul of the character; to give the fibers a luminous sheen and tiered texture on camera, I dedicated substantial effort to layering and thinning the wig. The pair of curved black Horns crowning the head was a major highlight. Departing from flat black, I embellished them with golden wing and laurel leaf accents, which—paired with golden-crimson eye makeup—preserved the fantasy essence while infusing an ornate, delicate finish. The choker with its elongated pendant around the neck, combined with the chunky golden cuffs along the wrists, sculpted the collarbone and shoulder lines cleanly. Wrapping golden vine chains around my leg down into matching strappy stiletto sandals anchored the airy lightness of the white dress with poised, commanding opulence. Because the gown features high slits and cut-out silhouettes, striking a balance between modesty and flattering bodily contours was essential; I achieved this by fanning out the sweeping streamers and relying on deliberate seated postures.

During the session, the piano served as an indispensable prop. Perched on the piano bench, I let my hands rest lightly across the keys or propped my chin thoughtfully with one hand. While these poses look like a casual practice moment on the surface, keeping clean bodily lines demanded holding constant muscle tension throughout the core and limbs. The profile glance looking over the shoulder in the first frame is a personal favorite, as it gracefully accentuated bodily curves and elongated leg lines. In several other shots, I subtly shifted my center of gravity backward, allowing the tiered skirt to drape organically for an unforced, relaxed mood. The studio was adorned with lush clusters of blue petals bathed in gentle pink ambient light, forming an ethereal, dreamlike contrast against the white gown.

Many assume cosplay is merely purchasing an outfit, slipping it on, and snapping a few stills. In reality, realizing the distinct mood of each frame requires relentless micro-adjustments. Finding the right grip on the ruby-hilted sword prop, ensuring the crimson ribbons drape without cluttering the frame, and disciplining facial expressions—warm and inviting without turning overly cloying—demanded meticulous calibration. This set eschewed bombastic digital CGI effects, striving instead to preserve genuine, tactile light and shadow. Contrasting her fiery identity against an immaculate, tranquil sanctuary seamlessly entwines romance with fantasy. Capturing my interpretation of Laevatain within this fragrance-filled piano chamber felt deeply rewarding, as every single photograph embodies our heartfelt endeavor to materialize a 2D soul into our world.
