Let me share this Christmas-themed Ram formal photoset. Although Christmas has long passed, my backlog of "pre-prepared" shoots is quite abundant. Counting them up, there are probably three more themed sets I haven't had time to post yet, which left me a bit dazed while sorting through them. I genuinely put my heart into preparing for this shoot, and what I am most satisfied with is this study and sofa backdrop—it feels very classic British style, matching perfectly with the red and green Christmas elements.
This costume has a lot of details, especially the red and white ruffled crop top and that big red multi-layered skirt. To fit Ram's character design, I specially chose a pink short wig with a very soft texture, paired with white over-the-knee socks with red trim and glossy red Mary Jane shoes, making the overall colors incredibly vibrant. You should be able to spot the little props in the photos: gift boxes placed on the wooden floor, red candy canes decorated with hemp rope, small white reindeer ornaments, as well as Christmas stockings and red-and-gold baubles on the tree. Combining them all together makes the festive atmosphere rush right at you for this Christmas cosplay look.
During the shoot, I experimented with a few different movement directions. There is a feel of kneeling on the Christmas rug to hand a gift to you guys, and also a highly cozy state of propping my legs up on the red leather sofa. Showcasing a character's playfulness in front of the lens isn't easy, especially the eye contact; it needs to look confident yet carry a touch of that nonchalant cuteness. Under the photographer's guidance, I personally prefer the candid capture of handing the gift in the first frame and curling up to look at the lens in the last one.
For the lighting, the photographer used warm yellow light to illuminate the environment, making the Christmas tree light strings in the background form beautiful bokeh in the lens. Combined with the excellent material reflection of the floor, it could capture crisp reflections, elevating the translucency of the frame by several notches. However, the temperature on the shooting day was quite low; even though the scene was indoors, shooting in such a waist-baring short skirt was actually quite a challenge, and I truly pushed through to finish the shoot relying solely on my anticipation for the character and the final turnout. For post-processing, we mainly enhanced the red-and-green contrast in color grading to give the frame more of a Christmas movie cinematic quality.
Photography is actually a continuous process of running-in with the scene and light. Sometimes a pose you think is well-struck might not look great when captured, while unintended movements capture the true spirit instead. The turnout this time leans overall toward sweetness and vitality, without overly relying on post-processing filters, preserving the texture of the light itself. After all, in this fast-paced era of photo production, being able to quiet one's mind and shoot an atmospheric photoset in such a meticulously decorated real-scene studio is a highly blissful thing for an entry of Anime-style photography. Since Christmas has already passed, let's treat this photoset as a belated festive gift for this Cosplay sharing session.
