[March 7th cosplay] Honkai Firefly ACG Expo Chronicles

The outdoor sunlight at Firefly ACG Expo was ideal for open-air shoots; capturing Honkai's March 7th amidst the bustling convention crowds turned out even better than anticipated. Before stepping out as this character, I dedicated serious effort to wig tailoring and makeup. Sculpting and setting the short pink wig required immense patience to ensure layered, buoyant volume that contoured along facial curves, demanding routine comb-throughs to prevent static frizz. Red colored contacts were paired with warm reddish-tinted eye blending, set over an ultra-longwear foundation base to withstand convention heat and prevent melting. Layering crimson shadows across the eyes gave the gaze a luminous yet aloof clarity.

The sartorial construction is rich in nuance: a monochrome long duster coat adorned with silver piping and cross motifs is layered over a crisp white turtleneck, accented with crimson florals and chest ribbon harnesses. To break visual monotony, black leather gloves were added alongside metallic waist chains and ruby-inlaid cross buckles that delivered heavy tactile quality. The most tedious part of dressing lay in aligning the waist hardware symmetrically to avoid visual distortion on camera. For action design, I mostly carried the black hooked umbrella one- or two-handed, carefully balancing its center of gravity so my wrists looked relaxed rather than stiff. Under direct sunbeams, the pink hair picked up soft lustrous sheen that complemented the high white collar. Managing the coat hem was also vital to avoid catching on venue clutter.

Firefly ACG Expo was packed to the brim, but the outdoor ambient lighting offered wonderful exterior conditions. Navigating with the umbrella required frequent posture resets, as long coats paired with shorts can bunch or deform during walking, while holding props in gloves demanded natural dexterity. As the photographer snapped away, I maintained an aloof, tranquil demeanor, anchoring my gaze to the lens or umbrella handle. Leaning forward with an outstretched arm showcased the back tailoring and kinetic tension of the coat. Seeing fellow fans recognize the character and exchange friendly greetings made the fatigue evaporate.

The metallic hardware held firm throughout, and the wig net remained snug without shifting despite hours on my feet. Faithful cosplay reproduction thrives on these micro-details—from cuff ties to waist chains. Conventions offer an incredible platform for community connection where exchanging prop-making and makeup tips proves invaluable. Shooting across high-traffic zones naturally blurred background crowds to keep the subject popping cleanly. The final color grade balanced the black, white, and red tri-tone palette under ambient sun. Reflecting on every outdoor shoot always reveals refinements for next time, and documenting these genuine creative trials is truly the heart of cosplay.
