[Gongsun Li Cosplay] Gender-bend cosplay Snow Prayer: Convention photos Showcase

For this convention, I cosplayed the Gender-bend cosplay version of Gongsun Li Cosplay (Snow Prayer skin) from Honor of Kings. Preparing for this character took nearly a month, from selecting fabrics to coordinating tailoring details with the seamstress. The red-and-white wide sleeves and long robes carried great texture under the convention hall lighting. Regarding the wig, the long white hair cascade adorned with red cords and gold hair ornaments was fairly resilient against getting disheveled in crowds once properly anchored. The internal support of the rabbit ears was rigid enough not to collapse, though turning my head while wearing them obstructed vision slightly, requiring careful angle scouting during photography. Three props were prepared: a red fox mask, a red oil-paper umbrella, and a long sword. The feather motif on the umbrella is the character's signature emblem; while moderately weighted, holding it aloft with one hand for extended periods left my shoulder aching. The mask featured a white base coated with red lacquer, requiring the contour lines to be painted cleanly in a single stroke. Finally, the sword was rather heavy; executing horizontal stances required tensing arm muscles to avoid looking weak on camera.

As for the shooting process, the convention venue was packed and the background was cluttered, so the photographer guided me straight to a relatively quiet and dimly lit corner. During the shoot, we primarily utilized high-contrast lighting. The first photo holding the mask frontally was designed to display character expressions and makeup details; I deliberately lowered my brows and gaze to project both the original character's cool detachment and the sharp edge suited for a male Gender-bend cosplay design. For the second shot reaching a hand outward, the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the foreground, enhancing depth and spatial dimension in this Anime-style photography capture. The third photo drawing the sword was intended to inject dynamic motion into otherwise static Convention photos, adding visual tension to the frame. The fourth photo resting the umbrella over the shoulder with eyes closed in profile was a classic recreation pose, requiring careful attention to the drape of the skirt. The fifth pose raising the umbrella with an elevated hand slightly strained the joints to maintain core stability, but the resulting shot looked great. The elegant drape of the garments was showcased best in standing postures.

The makeup focused heavily on defining the eyes and eyebrows; to harmonize with the red contact lenses, the eyeshadow used daily-leaning grayish-red tones without being overly heavy, primarily to embody the clean, crisp feel of the gender-swapped look. The lips featured a matte finish so they wouldn't appear overly gaudy against the white hair. Because this was a gender-bend take, the focus was not on recreating feminine sweetness, but on finding a sleek, slightly androgynous handsomeness. During the on-site shoot, beyond adjusting postures, I had to stay constantly alert to whether the wig was ruffled by ambient drafts or if the umbrella ribs were bumped. I was very pleased with the final resulting shots; the photographer was adept at rapid capture amidst dense convention crowds, filtering out passing bystanders to keep the focus cleanly locked on the subject for crisp visual texture. Overall, the range of motion for this character is relatively expansive, so I recommend that anyone planning to cosplay this character wear lighter footwear to maintain stable footing. All in all, it was a very smooth convention venue shoot.
