This teaser photo of Lan Meng's \"Lyra - Cloudburst Attire\" from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is a styling shoot into which I poured a lot of effort. Since there is so much to unfold regarding both the costume details and the action composition this time, I’m taking the opportunity of this teaser release to share the underlying concepts and shooting experiences with friends who love this look.
Let's first talk about the core movement this time, which is the frozen frame of the airborne flying kick in the image. To complete this action, it actually heavily tests core strength. In order to maintain the perfect angle of the sole directly facing the lens before the camera, I had to suspend my left leg at the highest point, while my body's center of gravity and the support of my right leg formed a stable triangular supporting surface. At that time, for this perfect posture, we adjusted back and forth many times, and the photographer and I gradually aligned the timing of muscle exertion. The photographer @樂天Timothy played a huge role in this process; he chose a low-angle upward shot, which could not only capture a close-up of the sole but also make my entire physique appear more slender and upright, instantly bringing out the frame's tension.
Now let's chat about the clothing pairing of this \"Lyra - Cloudburst Attire.\" The overall color utilizes a combination of cyan-green and white that I particularly like, paired with some gilded textures on the clothes and a semi-translucent light gauze material, making the entire look appear highly translucent under outdoor light. The headpiece part is a white wig styled into a rounded bun shape, which, combined with the hair accessories, makes the overall traditional style feel even richer. When the action froze, the gauze pieces on the sleeves scattered with the wind, perfectly echoing the large swathes of red tulle in the frame. Those flying red tulles were actually props we specially prepared to enhance the frame's fluidity. During the shoot, we tried the timing of throwing the red gauze many times, letting it form an irregular circular dynamic line before the lens, as if carried by the wind, embellishing around the main character, which greatly enriched the color saturation of the frame. Meanwhile, the surrounding tulle also served as a foreground frame, allowing the audience's gaze to focus more on the main character subject. This beautifully reflects the artistic side of Cosplay photography.
The red ball prop floating in the air above my head is also one of the fun points of this shoot. It represents some nimble light effect elements in the game. Although it's just a small sphere, it echoes the dancing red gauze in the frame, giving the entire photo more narrative depth and drama. During the post-production photo editing process, we also paid special attention to the dynamic balance between the red ball and the character's movements, ensuring it looks like it was truly tossed into mid-air, rather than a rigid post-production asset pasted on.
The live shooting environment was an outdoor white arched building with lush greenery in the background; this refreshing natural backdrop harmonizes beautifully with the cyan-green main color tone of the character's costume. The weather was excellent at the time, and the natural light was very bright. Shined from the upper side, the light formed very soft reflections on the white hair and clothes, while beautifully displaying the material texture of the red gauze and the golden stitching.
Actually, compared to ordinary standing poses, this kind of dynamic frozen shot poses higher requirements for the photographer. The photographer must not only snapshot my actions but also control the camera parameters to deal with the rapidly fluttering tulle. Going through the whole process, I was already slightly out of breath after shooting a few sets. The costume shoes for this shoot are also highly distinctive, a pair of thick-soled cyan-blue shoes whose anti-slip texture on the soles is clearly visible under the low-angle upward perspective, giving the entire styling an extra touch of down-to-earth power.
As a high-quality Lan Meng cosplay experience, every makeup finalization and shoot is an exploration of the character's charm. Although there is only one teaser photo, more final cuts from different angles and with different expressions will be released gradually. I hope everyone can feel that nimble and dashing style I want to express through this image. This is a wonderful journey of Traditional Chinese style game cosplay.
