Got the convention photos from CP Day 1, and this set of purple lightning-themed pictures turned out much sharper and cleaner than expected.
Under the complex ambient lighting of the convention venue, a purple wig is actually highly prone to chromatic aberration due to shifts in light color. Therefore, for the on-site lighting this time, we deliberately increased the compensation ratio of the cool light source to reduce post-processing work that might affect skin tone and hair color. The photographer's capture angles were very meticulous, especially the moment I squatted low into a horse stance. My center of gravity had to be pressed almost entirely onto a single knee while simultaneously maintaining a forward body lean and a half-drawn sword posture. My waist had to hold firm and continuously exert force, as the slightest relaxation would cause the pose to collapse.
The waistband of this outfit has thick inner padding, and combined with the wide sleeves and that prominent red fabric bow on the back, heat simply couldn't dissipate at all while walking around the exhibition hall. Although the wrapping rope on the prop hilt is anti-slip, it could still easily slide during intense movements, so I repeatedly adjusted the gripping angle several times during the shoot. Shooting these dynamic action convention photos live at an anime expo means the background is bound to be cluttered, so this set heavily focused on unifying the light and shadow during post-processing.
The placement and layout of the purple lightning special effects were discussed on-site, hoping to retain some of that anime-style tension and scaling within realistic convention photos. We wanted both the physical texture of the shoot and a seamless visual blend between the special effects and the character's movements so it wouldn't look out of place. The reflective effects of the gold threads on the costume showed up beautifully under the light, especially at the junction where the belt and sleeve covers meet, instantly bringing out a sense of layering. When posing with the blade, special attention had to be paid to the orientation of the sword body and the direction of the camera's incoming light; otherwise, the reflection on the blade's surface would wash out the brightness of the main subject.
No exaggerated skin smoothing was done in post-processing, preserving the geometric contact lens effect of the makeup to keep the eyes sharply focused. The venue floor was rock hard, putting quite a bit of pressure on the knees and ankles during low-posture movements, but to make the framing look good, the poses had to be executed decisively and perfectly. This set of photos captures the chaotic vibe of an anime convention while reinforcing the sharp, fierce temperament that the character should possess. It can be considered a fun yet challenging attempt at cosplay photography for an Anime cosplayer.
