Temperatures soared close to 36 degrees today. Even with mental preparation, heading out under the scorching sun for today's outdoor photoshoot work still proved quite grueling.

This time, I brought a heavily military-styled Rapi cosplay. While the overall look is strikingly eye-catching under direct sunlight, it exacted a heavy physical toll. My primary complaint is definitely the leather jacket. To pursue textural layering and realistic fidelity, the leather material was exceptionally thick and snug, complete with a multilayered inner structure. Just walking a few steps in this gear had my back drenched in sweat. By noon, with the sun directly overhead, the outfit felt like a portable sauna tightly bound to my body, making even breathing feel like a chore.

During shooting, maintaining the character's poised posture required keeping my core tight and upright at all times. Though tree leaves blocked some light in the woods, sunlight leaking through gaps felt like hot blades. While I managed a cool expression during the first couple of selfies, by the latter half, sweat streamed down my neck, and my vision began to blur. Dizzy, breathless, and with legs feeling as heavy as lead, I eventually had to squat on the ground, rip off my cap, and gulp down water, feeling like I might collapse into the leaf litter within seconds. My photographer friend witnessed that wretched state entirely, which explains the third photo featuring both of us—she accompanied me exclusively and anxiously urged me to wrap things up when I nearly suffered a heatstroke.

Looking back at that third group photo where I flashed a peace sign while smiling nonchalantly beside her, my internal system actually felt like a robot just rebooted. Wearing a lightweight white sun-protection hoodie, my friend was already sweltering, let alone me wrapped in a thick black leather jacket. Despite the grueling outdoor session, Rapi's costume design details are wonderfully delightful. The black military cap edged with red, dark inner wear paired with a high-vibrancy red tie, and metal buckles against the black leather created fierce contrast under backlighting and side lighting. To match the wig and overall styling, I specifically wore red contact lenses; paired with red lips, the look proved incredibly photogenic against the woodland's natural shadows and light.

In cosplay, the driving force brought by the character and final artwork can often temporarily override physical discomfort. High-temperature outdoor sessions every summer serve as absolute ultimate tests of true devotion and physical limits. Fortunately, despite the dizzying despair, the final photographic yields made all the endurance entirely worthwhile. The stifling heat of the leather, woodland mosquitoes, and sweat-soaked makeup were all frozen precisely the moment the shutter clicked. If you ever plan to tackle tight leather-clad characters, I sincerely advise avoiding midday hours—opt instead for a crisp early morning or evening for safe, successful shooting. After all, passing out from heatstroke means losing the chance to showcase a dashing Rapi; pacing oneself and safeguarding your health is essential to truly enjoying cosplay.
