When shooting this set, I kept thinking that it would be nice if I could be an otaku girl quietly reading in an old bookstore. The scene for today's photo set really fits my imagination of a "gloomy otaku girl" perfectly: wooden bookshelves packed with books, a classic red vintage rotary dial telephone, and that green retro desk lamp with fringed edges. Stepping into this immersive study, it feels like the whole world has quieted down.
In terms of clothing, I chose a very casual yet slightly clever black spaghetti strap top, wearing a loose black ribbed knit sweater over it. Intentionally letting one shoulder drop down presents a casual, lazy state. Combined with the straight long black hair and purple highlights at the hair tips, topped off with these large black-framed glasses, it basically sets a tone that is bookish yet carries a hint of rebelliousness. The plush rabbit doll with a white body and purple ears hanging from the belt is also a little highlight, adding a touch of softness and liveliness to the overall dark color tone.
For the makeup, the eye makeup was specially emphasized. The purple colored contacts echo the highlights of the hair, which, paired with the classic red lips, beautifully highlights the facial contours before the lens. With the warm-toned venetian blind light and shadow cast on the face in post-production, it creates an atmosphere with a strong cinematic texture.
During the shoot, the cooperation with the photographer was seamless, and we tried several different poses. There was sitting on the desk resting my chin in thought, casually pulling a book from the shelf to browse, and also kneeling in front of the desk reaching for a book high up. Though dubbed a "gloomy otaku girl," under the enhancement of light and shadow, there were still a few moments where I felt "saved" by the aroma of books filling the entire room. Just like those romantic stories written in books, in a dark corner, a beam of light will always shine in.
The highlight of this shoot lies in the capture of light and shadow. The striped light from the venetian blinds is truly an excellent natural prop which, combined with the texture of the furniture, gives the frame a strong sense of three-dimensionality and layering. The brown-covered gold-stamped book in hand is also a key prop to match the setting; holding it to strike poses feels exceptionally right. This is a great demonstration of Anime-style photography.
After finishing this set of pictures and completing the retouching, I truly felt a sense of temporarily escaping the real world. That quiet, lazy, slightly melancholic yet emotionally nuanced time was beautifully recorded by the lens. As to whether an otaku girl will be saved, I think perhaps there is no need for anyone else to save her; enjoying this composure within one's own small space is already an excellent state. This completes my photo set sharing for this time.
