[Surtr cosplay] Vintage Ambiance of Arknights Dawn Styling

Today's studio photoshoot for Surtr's Dawn styling from Arknights was completed in an indoor studio. Because the character carries an intense aura of mystique, I chose deep red velvet drapes as the primary backdrop paired with a Baroque-style sofa featuring gilded carved trim, forging a distinctly vintage Gothic style visual identity.

Let's start with the wig and headpieces: I layered the crimson wig carefully, using plenty of hair wax and setting spray to give the short cut textured volume and organic, irregular curves. The curved black horns atop the crown serve as the crowning touch of this look, accented on the left by delicate gold branch-like ornaments. To secure them cleanly without exposing the rigging, I used hidden clips and fishing line within the wig's interior armature, keeping them firmly anchored even during head turns or leaning poses. Around my neck, a minimalist single-strand pearl necklace adds a touch of restrained refinement to the opulent lace dress.

Regarding the outfit, the off-white lace camisole dress features elaborate layering with dense ruffles and lace trims along the hem, demanding constant straightening during the shoot to prevent a cluttered look. On my arms, I wore articulated skeletal cuffs; this jointed bone design paired with pale skin heightens her uncanny, dangerous presence. Since the dress is short and I posed Barefoot, I painted my toenails deep red to visually harmonize with my crimson hair and the velvet backdrop.

For props, we set up a small black round table topped with glassware holding ice cream, pastel pink confectioneries, and red roses. Poses went beyond curling up on the sofa hugging my knees to include subtle eye-contact interactions with the desserts on the table. In terms of illumination, the photographer utilized a warm side-backlight, drawing out an upscale texture from the crimson velvet and gilded sofa while creating sharp chiaroscuro contrast across my face and silhouette to enhance dimensional depth.

The shooting ambiance was remarkably quiet. To embody Surtr's languid yet perilous demeanor, I kept my gaze sharp—alternating between piercing eye contact with the camera and drifting downward toward the tabletop. Resting on a thick plush rug, the tactile feeling of Barefoot toes sinking into the soft fabric felt wonderful. Though stunning, the delicate lace edges and skeletal cuffs occasionally snagged on the wig or the rug, requiring frequent tidying between takes. I am thoroughly delighted with the lighting texture in the final cuts; the velvety atmosphere captured her aloofness and dark opulence with effortless precision.
