Diving right into my thoughts on shooting Touhou Project's Remilia at Firefly ACG Expo! Remilia is one of the most iconic figures across the entire franchise. Bringing this cosplay to life demanded meticulous care in styling and makeup. First came the light blue wig, requiring careful styling and setting. Crimson contact lenses and custom vampire fangs served as the visual soul, working in tandem with refined eye makeup to channel her faintly menacing, vampiric edge. The wardrobe followed a striking red-and-black palette—a crimson Lolita dress patterned with black motifs, anchored by a prominent neck ribbon and choker. Puffy lantern sleeves accented with red buttons paired with a vintage bonnet adorned with red and black roses to frame the face delicately while adding classical flair.
With dense convention crowds, we sought refuge in an outdoor walkway corner. Verdant foliage and grey glass railings formed a neat backdrop, while a red architectural sculpture in the distance mirrored my dress perfectly. The photographer shot with a wide aperture to melt the greenery into painterly bokeh patches, keeping the focal emphasis squarely on the character. For props, the red apple took center stage; holding or biting into it seamlessly channeled the vampiric noble mistress motif. Holding a plushie of her sister Flandre added rich narrative charm. The massive black wings strapped to my back brought formidable presence during movement, and glancing back over my shoulder toward the lens yielded intensely arresting frames.
Compositionally, I am delighted with the seated shots, which fully accentuated the Black lace stockings and crimson Mary Jane platform heels; the lace hosiery paired with platform heels elongated leg lines, echoing the petite, refined grace of the character. Under ambient light, the skirt pleats displayed rich dimension—particularly the front-facing seated full-body frame, which not only captured the entire ensemble but radiated relaxed aristocratic composure. Heartfelt thanks to the photographer for patiently scouting clean framing amidst crowded convention halls and providing mindful posing direction. Throughout the shoot, I continuously calibrated my expressions to capture that serene yet perilous vampiric aura. From bonnet ornaments to lace trimmings, the styling held up gorgeously under natural convention light. This shoot added valuable experience in navigating complex convention grounds—immense gratitude to both makeup artist and photographer for their tireless dedication.
