[Komeiji Satori cosplay] The Pink Mind-Reading Gaze in Touhou Project

Today I finished sorting out this studio set of Komeiji Satori cosplay from Touhou Project, visually centered around a high-saturation pink color scheme. Collaborating with photographer @我就亓怪了, we focused on highlighting the character's iconic features against a solid-color backdrop.

For hair and makeup, I chose a heavily layered pink short wig with finely textured ends to create natural, airy volume at the crown. The makeup featured red contact lenses and softer reddish-brown eyeshadow, softening sharp eyeliner lines and relying on eyelashes to elongate the eyes, matching that harmless yet piercing, all-seeing gaze. The complexity of the costume was much higher than expected. The centerpiece is an intricate Pink dress constructed from multi-layered lace and sheer tulle—a soft pink base layered with a pale gray-blue smock. This warm-and-cool contrast kept the look from feeling overly sweet against the pink background. Ruffles on the neckline and shoulders were layered with extensive lace, the sleeves featured puffy lantern silhouettes, and because of the numerous skirt tiers, I spent considerable time adjusting them into ideal undulating ripples before shooting.

The biggest challenge during this Cosplay photography session was working with the prop. That iconic red third-eye Eyestalk prop had considerable weight, entangled with red-and-yellow vines, green leaves, and pink and deep-red artificial flowers. To avoid obscuring costume details, I tested various holding angles. For instance, the frontal grip in the first photo effectively balanced hand positioning and created a visual anchor in the frame.

Under direct studio lighting, preserving lace textures without being washed out required careful technique. In post-processing, we maintained a soft, luminous pink tone without aggressively altering light and shadow, preserving the translucent skin texture and airy fabric feel. Throughout the shoot, because the delicate lace snagged easily and the Eyestalk prop vines frequently tangled together, we paused for makeup touch-ups several times. Despite these minor hiccups, the layered Pink dress was exceptionally well-suited for studio Cosplay photography. The soothing warmth of pink and the mysterious aura of the Eyestalk prop formed a unique balance—a contrast that truly defines the charm of this character. The final photos turned out wonderfully satisfying, making for a fulfilling shoot.
