The Convention photos from the Zhanjiang Comic Con on June 20th are finally retouched! Preparing and shooting this Cat-ear maid Rem Cosplay look took nearly half a month from start to finish. I styled and trimmed the wig myself; while a vibrant sky-blue bob cut seems simple on the surface, achieving layered depth is essential—messing it up even slightly easily makes the head look disproportionately large. To harmonize with the cat-ear headband, I deliberately adorned the locks with delicate white pearls, which, paired with the yellow cross-shaped hair clip on the right side, instantly made the entire color palette pop.
I made several fine-tunings to the costume as well. This outfit is packed with lace and ruffled frills; without ironing and steaming them in advance, they would easily crumple into a wrinkled mess in the sweltering convention heat. The neckline features high-collared white lace accented by a soft blue ribbon tied in the center, suspending a little golden bell beneath. The gentle chime of the bell with each step was my absolute favorite touch. For the sleeves, I opted for a detachable design—the sleeves feature subtle jacquard textures with wide white lace cuffs, complemented by standalone lace armbands. The tiered ruffled skirt boasts rich fullness, coordinated with over-the-knee White stockings underneath to create a substantial, grounded silhouette before the camera.
Ambient lighting on the convention floor was indeed a formidable obstacle. To capture these Convention photos, I scouted a relatively quiet corner with balanced, even illumination. Most shots utilized a wide aperture with shallow depth of field; once the background fell away into darkness, the blue-and-white tones across the figure stood out with stunning clarity. Photos 1 and 2 primarily captured playful hand gestures, such as cute hand signs or folding hands across the chest, aiming to express the whimsical charm of the Cat-ear maid persona. Photos 3 and 4 explored touching the chin with fingertips while gazing into the lens, establishing a more engaging interactive presence.
Photo 5 is my personal favorite among this entire set. Upon sitting down, the skirt fanned out naturally, beautifully showcasing the leg contours dressed in White stockings. Folding both hands near my chin in a slightly demure posture, complemented by a downcast gaze, yielded a result far more organic and gentle than anticipated. From wig refinement to garment nuances, I strove to faithfully recreate the beloved character from Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World. Communication with the photographer on set flowed effortlessly, capturing countless treasured moments in these Convention photos.
