Trying out a Halloween-themed Rem witch outfit, the overall color palette is dominated by purple and orange, which fits the holiday atmosphere very well. This costume is rich in details, with a purple pointed hat embellished with golden stars, paired with a red-backed cape, creating a strong visual impact. The white base dress combined with a red strap design can showcase the waistline without appearing too monotonous. Purple over-the-knee boots paired with white stockings elongate the leg lines while adding a playful sexiness. However, there was a small hiccup during the shoot: the gloves exploded midway, so I had to rely on post-processing or shooting directly without them to continue, though fortunately the overall effect wasn't affected too much.
The scene for this shoot was chosen as a vintage magical study. Deep wood bookshelves, stained glass windows, along with spider webs and hanging ghost banners, maximize the atmospheric vibe. When utilizing props, jack-o'-lanterns are definitely the soul of Halloween photography. Besides the conventional holding or lifting of pumpkins, I also tried stepping on a pumpkin or balancing it directly on my head, which adds fun and interactivity to the frame. The broom nearby is also an excellent prop; holding the broom with one hand combined with a leg-lifting action beautifully showcases the costume's liveliness.
From a professional photography perspective, for a scene with this dark fairytale style, the arrangement of light and shadow is crucial. To highlight the subject, softer fill light was used in the front, while the background retained some warm-toned dark areas, creating a sharp cool-warm contrast that makes the character pop out from the complex background. In terms of posing, because of wearing long boots, sitting postures easily show advantages—crossing legs or extending them forward and slightly pointing the toes can wonderfully flatter the leg shape. Gaze control is also very important; in this scene, a gaze carrying a bit of mystery and playfulness tells more of a story than a simple smile. Hand movements can be made as rich as possible, such as pointing at the cheek, holding the brim of the hat, or interacting with the jack-o'-lantern, avoiding the awkwardness of not knowing where to put hands.
The vintage leather single sofa is the core supporting point in the frame. Utilizing the sofa's backrest and armrests, many different sitting and leaning postures can be extended. The scattered chess pieces on the round table can also serve as a great foreground or background element to enrich the layering of the frame. Overall, this Halloween special shoot was extremely fun; not only did the costume and scene meet expectations, but it also unlocked many new photography poses.
