This Rem Cosplay set was captured at an outdoor pool. Before shooting, prepping the props was meticulous: to ensure a bright, airy aesthetic, we selected clear inflatable swim rings and beach balls. The sailor suit was crafted from a semi-sheer fabric—unassuming when dry, but once submerged in water, it clung closely to the skin to reveal subtle skin radiance that harmonized gorgeously with surface water reflections.
The wig proved to be a real hurdle: the blue wig absorbed water, grew heavy, and easily stuck to my face, requiring constant towel-drying and cold-air blowouts. Wearing a hat meant bangs shading the eyes required repeated readjustment. Under strong daylight, the photographer set up strobes poolside, using rim backlights to illuminate water splashes until droplets glistened like transparent gems.
Throughout the shoot, I followed the photographer's cues—kicking water at the pool edge or reclining in the water using buoyancy to steady my posture. The clear swim ring refracted underwater light; staggering my body with the ring concealed awkward underwater distortions while beautifully elongating leg lines. During breaks, I constantly smoothed the saturated sailor suit neckline and skirt hem to preserve character accuracy.
For facial expressions, I focused on quiet, serene gazes, occasionally splashing water for a playful, carefree touch. In post-processing, water blues were fine-tuned for crystalline clarity, background foliage was gently pulled down, and water specular highlights were softened to maintain a luminous, cool aesthetic. Shooting water-themed cosplay heavily depends on light interaction with water; a missed splash instantly reduces dynamic energy. Wearing a semi-translucent wet uniform under the sun tested endurance, but the final outcome made every effort worthwhile.
While prepping poolside, I checked my reflection to ensure the blue wig and white skirt harmonized. The bright yellow neckerchief had to stay centered to reveal the red cord accent. Beyond underwater frames, sitting on the tile edge captured wonderful ripples and reflections. We mixed standing, seated, and floating postures alongside ball-tossing and water-splashing to keep compositions lively. Despite minor mishaps like slipping swim rings and water in the eyes, spending nearly two hours in the water authentically brought the summer vibe of Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World to life.
