This shoot features a Christmas-themed Rem, with the costume reproduction primarily emphasizing a red, white, and green color palette. The costume utilized multi-layered lace and satin textures, especially the red-and-white striped bow on the chest and the puffy red skirt, creating quite a visual impact. To highlight the holiday ambiance, the location was deliberately chosen in an indoor studio decorated with a vintage Christmas tree. A green plaid blanket, teddy bear, candy cane, and glittering golden reindeer served as great background props. The on-site lighting mainly relied on vintage table lamps and warm spotlights, creating a hazy Christmas atmosphere.
To highlight the character's temperament, I chose a short, light-blue wig with straight bangs, pinning pink hair clips and small green hair accessories on both sides of my cheeks. For makeup, I selected a warmer orange-red lipstick to complement the red-and-white outfit. Posing during the shoot was controlled primarily to showcase the costume's details better. For example, in the set sitting on the carpet, extending the legs was necessary to express the clean lines of the White stockings, while matching the placement of the gift box allowed hand gestures and props to display a natural interaction. Even in static photos, a relaxed feeling in movement is crucial. The skirt uses multiple layers of red tulle; when sitting down, the hemline had to be constantly smoothed out to ensure no harsh creases were pressed in. The gloves featured a white base with green stripes, perfectly echoing the green ribbon at the skirt's waist and unifying the overall visual elements.
Post-processing focused on preserving fabric texture and detail without excessive skin smoothing, aiming to better present the authentic state of the clothing and hair. The texture of White stockings is quite sensitive to light and prone to overexposure, so direct harsh lighting angles were specifically avoided during shooting to maintain a matte texture on the stockings. The ornaments on the background Christmas tree and the vintage carpet on the floor were slightly darkened to keep them from stealing the visual focus from the subject. A touch of nostalgic warm tones was added during color grading to better match the cozy warmth of Christmas. Squatting on the floor while lifting the gift box was a real test of core strength, and the candy cane was actually quite heavy—holding it up for long periods made my arms sore. However, seeing the golden silhouettes formed by light and shadow along the lace edges and the vivid contrast of the red skirt against the green plaid sofa in the final photos made all that hard work a true joy during the shoot.
During the shoot, I also constantly experimented with different gazes and angles to express both the character's core traits and the liveliness and gentleness unique to Christmas. The number and placement of props were adjusted multiple times to achieve an effect that enriched visual depth without distracting from the subject. For instance, placing flowers and the teddy bear to the side and rear filled background gaps without obstructing line-of-sight. Looking back at the whole process after wrapping up, the color coordination of this costume is indeed very suitable for winter or holiday shoots; the White stockings and red skirt formed a wonderful contrast, looking exceptionally vivid under soft lighting. Beyond clothing and setting, adjusting the lighting angle also took considerable effort—the key light had to hit from a 45-degree angle above so the face looked dimensional and reflections on the lace weren't glaring. The entire photoshoot took several hours from prep to wrap-up. Though a bit tiring, capturing photos with this vintage Christmas atmosphere and blending character traits with festive elements made it a very enjoyable cosplay experience overall.
