Enduring over an hour under the blazing 30°C sun, I even had a bout of hypoglycemia midway through, but fortunately managed to push through—and the final photos turned out deeply satisfying. This shoot was completely based on my own interpretation of a Rem fan design, centered around the Maiden Tyrant concept. Special thanks to photographer Lingling for braving the high temperatures throughout, capturing action shots, guiding me, and helping tremendously with countless details.
To match that Maiden Tyrant vibe—petite in appearance yet radiating a dangerous aura—I chose this gray ruffled hooded dress paired with white slouch socks and black platform shoes. The outfit itself is very adorable, especially with the lace and ribbon bows, which created a sharp contrast against the white katana in my hand. Initially, I was worried I couldn't pull off this slightly dark maiden aesthetic, as wearing so many layers on such a hot day was stifling, not to mention executing various cool, aloof poses. Fortunately, with Lingling's patient guidance, she reminded me to keep my gaze sharper and my movements crisper.
The shooting location was set along industrial-style wire mesh fencing, where the red backdrop wall perfectly highlighted the cool-toned gray outfit. To express the obsessive dedication of the line 'No matter how many times it takes, I will save you,' we made many attempts in pose choreography. For instance, kneeling sideways while pressing down on the katana, or standing on one leg while raising the blade, were all designed to convey that fierce edge while fundamentally embodying the desire to protect someone. Although this Rem fan design isn't an official costume from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, I feel that as a fan design, it effectively amplified the character's personal traits.
Photography post-processing primarily preserved skin texture, treating shadows and highlights softly to endow the entire photo set with a cool, aloof, yet dreamy atmosphere. This experience gave me firsthand appreciation of the challenges of outdoor shoots in extreme heat; despite the grueling process and the hypoglycemia scare, seeing the finished results made every bit of effort worthwhile. There were plenty of fun behind-the-scenes moments during the shoot—leaning against railings to catch my breath during breaks, rushing to touch up makeup, and then jumping right back into shooting. These photos carry immense power in both composition and overall ambiance; looking at them now, all the sweat shed feels completely worth it.
